Hysterical Hyperbole?

Pistol found that killed 8.5 million people. Chicago, that bastion of peace and level-headedness.

I could've sworn it was a fanatic that killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

It was a pistol's fault?? Who would they blame if the other assassins had been successful in their attempts to kill the Archduke? You know, the ones throwing grenades.
For some silly reason, maybe because I've taught history at the collegiate level, (or then again, maybe it's because I have a brain?) I seem to recall WWI being the result of a tangled series of alliances between rival powers, but what do I know.
