Match Report, Waco

Decent run, but slow. The big boys are doing this in the low 3's. Gotta take some time off the draw and reload to be competitive here, but at least got all my hits...

And yes, it was Afrika hot today.

Here's our blog God JR at work this morning at Waco's USPSA shoot.
Match Report, Waco

Here's a nice vid of our very own Girl shooting her very very loud open gun.

The shocker in the Ramsey case

One of the worst headlines ever. You can't tell me that nobody at the paper read this and didn't think the same thing I did when I saw it.

I-35 Open Again After Fire In Arbuckle Mountains

See this?
Authorities diverted traffic 20 miles east to U.S. 177, which was congested with heavy traffic. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
That was me, my son, his friend, and his father, in 4 separate vehicles, moving the boys into their apartment at OU. The other dad was driving the U-Haul truck. We moved about 20 miles in 4.5 hours. After about 4 hours, the U-Haul started spewing transmission fluid and stalling. Was it remote? Not even digital roam was available on any of our phones for most of the way. Now you know why there were no reports of injuries or damage.

It took us 7.5 hours for a 2.5 hour trip. What was the big holdup? Three cops in Sulphur, OK, directing traffic from 177 North to Highway 17 West, which led back to I-35. May those smokey-bear hat-wearing mouth-breathers rot in hell for eternity.

Another false alarm?

A few days ago, we talked about the Brits considering profiling of arabs in the ongoing war on terror.

Sadly, it doesn't appear to be the case here in the US. Don't know if you heard or not, but there was a scare at a West Virginia airport today when two bottles of some sort of liquid (didn't think you could carry liquid on a plane now??) set off the bomb sniffing dog. And, oh yeah, she's from Pakistan. However, never fear, the PC cops are here!!

In response to reporters’ questions, McKinley confirmed the woman was of Middle Eastern descent. She said the woman was not treated any differently because of her nationality.

That's a damn shame. I'll keep yelling it as loud as I can, but until we stop worrying about putting people's feelings in front of our country's national security, we're screwed.

And oh yeah, if it was me, and I was trying to blow stuff up, I do believe I'd have a lot of dry runs before hand to see just what the response was going to be. But that's just me.

The Day the King Died

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 12 years old. I was sitting on my parent's bed watching Gilligan's Island when the program was interrupted to tell the world that the King was dead. I remember becoming overcome with sadness. I sat in disbelief as tears welled up in my eyes. The King was dead.
Elvis was true greatness, and I miss him.

World's Smallest Functional Revolver

Talk about your concealed carry gun. This sucker is tiny. It fires a bullet that's a 2.34mm caliber (that's .09 inches), with a muzzle velocity of 426.5 ft/sec. The ballistics are a hoot. Looks like a maximum range of about 120 meters, and it drops below zero at about 37.5 meters. I bet it would sting, though.

Breast implants saves woman after Hezbollah attack

One Israeli woman has received an unexpected boost from her breast implants during the Lebanon war -- the silicone embeds saved her life during a Hezbollah rocket attack, a doctor said. "The young woman went through surgery two years ago to have a larger chest," he said. "During the war she was wounded in the chest by shrapnel" that got stuck in the implants instead of penetrating further.

I would like to make an honest and heartfelt plea to all you ladies out there. PLEASE think of your safety and go get breast implants. It is one way you can insure your safety during these crazy times. I would also ask that you email me with pictures of your implants so I can stop worrying about you. Before and after pictures would be good, but just before or just after will be fine, also. It really doesn't matter, just send them.
Thank you and be safe,
Big D

Let's hope England does the right thing

The Brits are actually thinking about profiling muslims. I hope they do it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Until we get over our squeamish-ness about potentially insulting people, we're going to lose the war.

You know what you say to an "innocent" muslim that you search before he or she gets on a plane or other method of public transportation? "I'm sorry for taking up some of your time. Have a nice flight." But, let's say you actually stop someone from blowing up an airplane because you did the right thing and profiled them? How many Scandinavian grandmas do we have to watch get stopped at the security checkpoints while the persian in the flowing robes walks right by before we wise up?

Ask any cop - profiling works.

However, the highest ranking muslim policeman in Britain has given warning that:

profiling techniques based on physical appearance were already causing anger and mistrust among young Muslims. Tarique Ghaffur, an assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said: “We must think long and hard about the causal factors of anger and resentment.

Let's think about that statement, shall we?? Basically what he's saying is that if the muslim community thinks they're getting the shaft, there will be riots, problems, etc etc etc. How asinine of a statement is that? I mean, really, let's substitute any other religious group for muslims and can you see that group rioting in the streets because they feel they're being discriminated against? I mean, really, if someone will riot, burn, loot, and kill people over a cartoon - who's to say what they'll do if they get profiled??

How about this? I'll be insulted, and severely mistrust the TSA if I'm pulled over to get checked out while the arab behind me does not. You don't see a lot of people worried about hurting my feelings, do you?

It's insanity.

Seven die in toilet accident

Five neighbours then rushed to the men's aid, lowering themselves into the pit, but succumbed to poisoning caused by accumulated gas, the site said.
Sounds like one of our road trips.

There is No Clash of Civilizations...

You may have already seen this clip, but I just did after someone pointed it out to me. It's brilliant. I'd love to see the whole thing unedited, because this woman hits the nail squarely on the head.
It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and the violation of these rights, on other hand. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings. What we see today is not a clash of civilizations. Civilizations do not clash, but compete.
There's a brief appearance of some imam-looking guy who falls back to his dogma, and she sets him straight, but pronto. Watch it.

Sunday Night Football?

Is this weird or what? Yeah, I know it's only pre-season, but it's nice to have pro football back on TV. But watching Al and John on NBC, on Sunday night, is just plain weird.
