MSNBC - In Bush's Shadow

"Kerry ripped into Cahill, furious that the mostly baseless attacks on his valor were driving his numbers down."

Ok, so A: Kerry's camp is admitting that what, SOME of the swifty's claims are true?? And B: I guess accidentally fragging yourself with a blooper, accidentally fragging yourself in the ass with rice crispies, and banging your forearm on your boat qualified for John Kerry's purple hearts. Then there's the issue of a Silver Star with a combat V. From what I have seen, there were NO Silver Stars with a combat V awarded in all of Vietnam. If these claims are "mostly" baseless, then why not release ALL of your military records, Senator? I'm sure that could set the record straight promptly.

Do you honestly believe all those medals were inappropriately awarded?
Still beats staying at home pretending to be in the National Guard.
Nice blog though, we should exchange links.
Cheers.

Well, partner, at least you believe in something, even if it's nothing. Read the facts, then get back to me on Kerry's medals. Bush's record notwithstanding, what did Kerry really do?

Thanks for the props. Let's do the exchange...might be fun. But remember, we're not Americans - we're Texicans.

Read the FACTS? Come on. Which set? Why is this even an issue? Kerry served. Bush partied.

Weren't Kerry's medals awarded by the military anyway? It's hardly like he awarded them to himself. If he didn't deserve them, surely others who were awarded medals also didn't deserve them. Perhaps there should be an enquiry into EVERY medal awarded during that period?

Nice blog though. I do love you crazy Texans and your apparently unflinching love of that Bush chappie. I just wish that your domestic politics weren't going to fuck the rest of us up quite so badly...

Why are these elections all about the Vietnam war?
You guys really seem to need more political parties, the choices they give you are redicilous... A guy who can't decide on anything and feeds of the failures of the other guy vs. a warmongering corporate beast...
And the "discussions" aren't really the stuff of rocket-science either: "Girlie men", "terrorist terrorist", "war war"...etc...

Crazy yanks...

wow - take a few days off and look what happens...

If I neglect a response, forgive me.

One must, at the very least, look suspiciously at the medals that Kerry recieved. For one thing, he bases his entire "vote for me" on his 4 months and 12 days in Vietnam. Each of his purple hearts can be questioned - two the results of an accidental self inflicted wound, and one the result of getting the hell outta dodge as fast as he could and banging his arm on the side of his boat. None required hospitalization. None earned him disability from the military. His silver star was awarded for shooting a teenage VC in the back, after the VC was tagged with a .50 cal machine gun round or two. If you knew anything about guns, you'd know this was at the least, shall we say, suspicous. When you also consider that Kerry apparently wrote all of his own commendation material, filmed re-enactments of his epic battles, and is apparently disliked by enough of the men he served with that they are being raked through the mud - it does make you wonder about the guy.

Why is Vietnam important?? Bush, the last time I checked, didn't make it an issue. Kerry did. Kerry made it an issue because he can't back up anything he's done in 19 years in the Senate. He's missed something like 78% of all the meetings and votes that the Intelligence committee took while he was serving on it, and his name is not on a single piece of legislation. Compared to his colleauge Teddy Kennedy, who's name graces 100's, if not 1,000's of pieces of legislation, and it again, at the least, makes one wonder.

And, for the chap who called Bush a warmongering beast. Yep, he's no Neville Chamberlain, that's for sure. It's one of the reasons I like him. I would rather not see another Hitler rise up because we sat back and continued to appease him, much like Europe did in the 1930s. And, a "corporate beast"?? Please. That's such a bunch of bullshit that I don't even know where to start. What background would you prefer the President came from?? Peace Corps? Habitat for Humanity? Right. I want someone running the most powerful nation on earth who hasn't a clue about how business, or the free market system works. Yeah, that'd be good. The myth about how Republicans favor big business and the Dems favor the little guy is a bunch of crap. And you know it. There were more 'big business mergers and small business' run out of business during the Clinton years than at any time in our history. Enron ring a bell, brainiac? How about Loran?? Oh wait, there's Haliburton, I forgot. As JR said, maybe you should actually inform yourself of the facts before posting such a braindead comment.

No unflinching love for Bush - I disagree with much of his domestic policy - but frankly, the war against the terrorists is a greater issue that I'm willing to give him a pass on some of the things I don't really like.

Pray tell how our domestic policies are going to effect you, #1, and #2, why should I care? You live in your own country and I could care less what your government does, or does not do. That's your problem. My government is my problem.

toodles.

War Mongering Corporate Beast????

OK, so what about loveable John, what has he done?

I know, I know. Marry well! Yes, boys and girls he made a carreer out of marrying rich widows. And of course, flip-flop, flip-flop, flip-flop.

Do you really want to compare what "John the Marrying Man" has done compared to George W?

Perhaps you should read those citations and awards. They were written by JOHN KERRY! He wrote the recomendations for the awards himself. Nice, very nice.

War mongering? And how many of you took holiday in Iraq in the past 10 years? Anyone? Anyone? You didn't look forward to going to see some public executions? Or perhaps a floging or maybe a public stoning? Hmm, sounds like a real party town.

There was an evil man, raping, killing and stealing from his own people and killing others for sport and you have a problem with George sending in the troops? Tell me, do they celebrate July 4th as Independence Day in the UK? Because if they don't, you have no clue what you're talking about.

I shudder to think what would have happened or what will happen if someone like John Kerry was in office on Sept. 11th. The US would have already surrendered to Osama Bin Laden.

And don't even go into the corporate world. Bush was a business man before anything. He didn't have to line up rich widows for money, he earned it. You know the old fashioned way. He has one home in Crawford TX, not 5 all over the globe. Yeah that's a man of the people, as he jets off to his villa. Nice try.

I need someone to explain to me what it is I'm missing about John Kerry. I can't believe this is the guy some people want in office. Is it just because you hate George W that much that anyone will do?

For me voting Kerry is about sending a message to the GOP, stop lying to me, stop screwing with the environment and stop being so secretive.

Holy cow, batman! A real liberal perspective!! Pray tell what exactly the GOP is lying to you about? Pray tell how the GOP is screwing with the environment (yes, I know, Billy Clinton passed all sorts of laws regulating the environmental usage of our country. He regulated the use of the only deposit of anthracite coal in the US, one of only a handful in the world. Anthracite coal is the cleanest burning coal out there, and would have severely reduced our production plant's emissions. Mr. Clinton, and the liberals in congress, regulated new electrical plant production - new plants that would have been cleaner burning than the old worn out plants we've got now. As a result of this, brownouts and blackouts make the news each year. But, we're taking care of the environment better.)
How is the GOP being secretive?? Do you really want to get into that discussion?? Rose law firm billing records ring a bell??
Typical Liberal Pap.

Back it up or go home.

And, you're voting for Kerry to send a message?? I'm sure Osama is really happy to hear that.

Send the GOP a message???

Stop screwing the environment???

Here's a few words for you Dude. Pittman-Robertson Act, ring a bell? I didn't think so.

That's the 10-11% tax on sporting goods equipment and licenses that goes TO THE ENVIRONMENT! We're talking Billions upon Billions of dollars. Many, many times what all the little tree hugging wanna be environmentalists contribute to the cause. Oh Ted Turner and Robert Redford give 10 million, not even 1%. PETA, not even on the map. And don't even bring up the EcoNazi's like Earth First. What a crock!

Sportsmen, hunters and fishermen AND THE GOP have done more for the environment than all of the tree huggers ever will.

Put the bong down and get a clue! Maybe grow up and stop trying to be a '60s hippie with a cause for the environment. It ain't working.

And who was the President that "misappropriated funds" from this??? Yes that's right, Slick Willie! Yeah, I want John Kerry in office so the Democraps can "give" to the environment. Because they've done so much in the past....
