Hot for martyrdom

Another update on the religion of peace.

Interesting read - and directed at our media and leftists - too bad they're not listening.

I've heard this poverty nonsense time and time again from Western apologists for Islam, most of them not Muslim by the way. There are millions of passive supporters of terror who may be poor and needy but most of those who do the killing are wealthy, privileged, educated and free. If it were about poverty, ask yourself why it is middle-class Muslims -- and never poor Christians -- who become suicide bombers in Palestine."

"Stop asking what you have done wrong. Stop it! They're slaughtering you like sheep and you still look within. You criticize your history, your institutions, your churches. why can't you realize that it has nothing to do with what you have done but with what they want."

This about sums up the American left in a nutshell. It's never the fault of the "other guy", whether it's a convicted death row rapist or an out of control religion. It's always "our" fault, even if we had nothing to do with the problem other than turning our back on it.

Cooking with JR - Chili

It's been a dreary, cool weekend, and devoid of shooting, so I decided that today would be a good day to cook some chili. Please note that Texas chili does not have beans or other ghastly filler that you see in most variations of what people call chili. It's essentially meat and spices, with some onion and garlic. I've got a recipe that's won a number of competitions, and has been used for a couple of decades. It comes from the other JR, whose family has spawned a number of state and world chili champions. I've modified it a bit, but here goes.

First, you need some staples. Beer is mostly for the cook, but a spritz in the chili never killed anyone. You need pot to cook in, and some fundamental ingredients:

Chili powder, comino (cumin), cayenne pepper, salt, paprika, oregano, onion and garlic will cover most of what you need.
A couple of jalapenos are good for flavor, and I'll show you how to use them properly. A beef bouillion cube, a small can of tomato paste, and a couple of cartons of chicken broth (low sodium) will round out your ingredients. I don't use water in this recipe, but if you can't find broth, just use water.

Let's cook. First, mince about 1/2 a large yellow onion, as fine as you like. The onion will break down in the cooking.

Also, you need about 2 tablespoons of minced garlic (I buy mine pre-minced in a jar). Saute the onions and garlic in a little olive oil. Now it's time to brown the meat. When I'm cooking for competition, I get a good cut of meat, trim it by hand, and cube the pieces into about 3/4-inch cubes. Screw that for cooking at home.

I just bought 3 lbs of chili grind. Yeah, it breaks down into little pieces of hamburger-like meat, but that's okay for eating. Try to get a lower fat grind, so you don't have to mess with draining after browning. Dump the meat in, and brown it with the garlic and onions. Drain if needed. Smells good, don't it?

Now it's time to add the first round of spices and stuff. 1 TBSP Chili powder, 1 TBSP Comino, 1/2 beef bouillion cube, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper, 1 small can of tomato PASTE, a few dashes of Tabasco Chipotle (I did this on a whim, and it's really, really good), and one jalapeno. Just drop the whole pepper in the pot.Cover the whole thing with chicken broth, and let it simmer on medium heat for about 30 minutes. Beer time.

Next, get one of those little strainer thingies, fish the pepper out, and put it in the strainer. Use a spoon to squish the juice out. Discard the pulp, and replace with a fresh pepper. Now we add more spices, and things start to take shape. Add 6 TBSP chili powder, 2 TBSP comino, 1 TBSP paprika (it's for color, ya know), 1/4 tsp of oregano (don't overdo this, unless you like spaghetti sauce), and cover with chicken broth. Simmer for 30-45 minutes, or a couple of beers.
At this point, you'll notice your chili taking on a beautiful red color, with a shimmering golden sheen on the top. This is a sign of goodness to come.

I'm usually a little woozy at this point, but we're close to the end. After more simmering, squeeze the juice out of the last jalapeno, add another 1-2 TBSP of chili powder and comino, another 1/2 tsp salt (taste it first, of course), and then cook it until you can't stand waiting anymore (about another 30 minutes or so, depending on the meat). Your preference on the thickness of the chili will determine how long you cook it. Remember, chili will thicken as it cools.
Chili is best served as a lone dish, and at this point, I don't care what you put in it - just don't tell me about it. I prefer a little chopped onion and grated cheese on mine. Chili stores great in the freezer. I like to fill a few freezer bags with some, and store it. Next time you have guests for a football game and burgers and dogs, break out a bag, nuke it, and be a hero.

A note on ingredients. You can spend a LOT of time and money looking for just the right chili powder, comino, etc. Yes, you can get fresh onion and garlic. But for cooking at home, go with the bargains. Use powdered ingredients - big deal. Make sure your chili powder isn't full of comino, but if it is, cut back on the comino. By the way, the chili is almost always better the next day. Enjoy.

It can't be that the French are finally developing a spine? I mean, who would be uncomforatble with a muslim fundamentalist loading baggage onto airplanes??

Telegraph | News | Strong yet sensitive, introducing the Bond that bleeds

How sweet. A Bond that cries and bleeds.

And, this article has it all wrong. It lists the debate between the best Bonds as one between Roger Moore and Sean Connery.

No doubt Connery should be in there - but I think I'd have to add that Pierce Brosnan has pushed Moore out as the #2 spot.

I'm probably going to go to the movie, but I think I might be laughing most of the way through.

To recap:
- Boat rides scare the new Bond.
- He chipped a tooth in his first fight scene.
- He's afraid of guns.
- He can't drive a standard.
- He can't handle the sun.
And now,
- he's in touch with his sensitve side.

Joy.

Arlington man shoots intruder

Now this is a nifty little story. The WBAP article was the only one I could find online - but it was making the rounds all day on the radio.

Seems wanna be crook breaks into the house while the couple is sleeping early this morning. They wake up, find him stacking up his loot, and the husband pulls a .38 on the burglar and orders him to cease and desist. The burglar chooses instead to charge the husband, who shoots at the thief, hitting him a couple of times. One story I heard says he was shot in the neck and chest. The WBAP story says it was in the head. Regardless, said burglar didn't feel like giving up the fight, and refused to obey further commands from the husband. Said thief then leaves the house through the backdoor.

Shortly therafter, same guy is back at the FRONT door, begging to be let in. Homeowner, for some ownknown (to me) reason, lets the guy BACK IN, tries to subdue the turd one more time, and then the crook makes a break for the back door and tries to hide in the woods where he's subsequently caught by the police.

This story has so many wierd things in it that I don't know where to begin.

Why the homeowner didn't continue to pump rounds into the turd until the turd was assuming room temperature is beyond me. Why the homeowner let the guy back in the house is beyond me.

I'm glad that the guy and his wife got out of this without any scars. But it strikes me as rather irresponsible in the defense of his family to knowingly LET someone back in his house that had been robbing you a minute before, and had already taken a shot or two in the process.

Odd.

Back from the dead

Long story short, Charter communications sucks. Bad.

Regardless, I now have Verizon FIOS and it rocks!! So, all's well that ends well I suppose.

I've got some catching up to do blog wise, but it's nice to be back.

Amazon.com: Reviews for Playing With Fire: Music: Kevin Federline

K-Fed's latest (c)rap album is out, and the reviews are rolling in. Here's a sample:
Three seconds in the microwave, and what a lightshow! Thanx, K-Fed!

Would've gone with another star or two, but "Playing with Fire" doesn't end up looking as good afterward as rewritable CDs.
And another:
The sheer cacophony that this album exhudes is a declaration of war against all which is good and pure in this world. Skies will rain blood, virgins will be spontaneously defiled, and there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The drum machines in this necronomicon of pain are wrought from the realm of Baalzebub himself, their metallic drone bores holes within the eardrums - sweet mercy comes from this.

The unholy union between K-Fed and music television will ensure that this demon seed is poured forth upon the masses, burning them with unescapable torment.

It must be stopped.
And those are the good reviews. I'm thinking this will not be the album of the year.

Trigger Treat!

Gunfire broke out between two groups at a massive Halloween street party in the city's Castro district, wounding at least 10 people, including innocent bystanders, police said Wednesday.

Sexy is the new scary

"Looking sexy is now considered normal, feminine behavior for a woman, so on a day like Halloween, women will take it as creative license to wear revealing clothing and no one can call them a tramp that day," said Donna Gough, an assistant professor of women's studies at Cal State Fullerton. "And for men, it's a day where they can openly stare at and drool over women in such attire without being called a chauvinist pig."
Apparently, Halloween puts people in California in some alternate universe where they actually believe this sort of crap.
At Santa Ana-based Halloweenshop.com, owner Rick Tuinenburg said sales of skimpy costumes have spiked in the past few years and the best-selling costume for women so far is, "basically anything with a short skirt." Of course, no sexy outfit is complete without the mandatory thigh-high stockings and garter belts.

"The message being sent for a woman is that you have to wear these costumes to fit in and be normal and be considered attractive and appealing to men," said Gough.
The male part of me says, "YEAH, BABY!," but then reality sets in. For example, if I were to suggest that The Girl wear a nice school girl outfit to our Halloween match, I'd probably get a punch in the pants. Girl - these people are professional scientists and costumers. They know what they're talking about. So get that pleated skirt out, and starch that white blouse. Nothing says "Happy Halloween" like dressing slutty!

Man dismembers girlfriend in Quarter; cooks body parts

Here's the understatement of the year.
The couple seemed happy at first, he said, though that would soon break down.
Yeah, I'd call it a bit of a breakdown:
A suicide note in the pocket of a man who jumped off the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel late Tuesday led police to the grisly scene of his girlfriend’s murder, where they found her charred head in a pot on the stove, her legs and feet baked in the oven and the rest of her dismembered body in trash bag in the refrigerator, according to police and the couple’s landlord.

US full of Internet addicts study

Most disturbing was the discovery that some people hid their Internet surfing, or went online to cure foul moods in ways that mirrored the way alcoholics use booze, according to the study's lead author, Elias Aboujaoude.

"In a sense, they're using the Internet to self-medicate," Aboujaoude said. "And obviously something is wrong when people go out of their way to hide their Internet activity."
Sounds like crap to me. Let's look closer:
"Pornography is just one area of excessive Internet use."
I see. Obviously a flawed study.
Nearly six percent of the respondents felt that their personal relationships suffered as a result of their excessive Internet use.
I decided to check with some friends, and I think this summarizes what they had to say:Now leave me alone. I have some anti-social behavior that I need to nurture.

School bans tag, other chase games

Sweet merciful crap. An elementary school has banned tag, touch football, and other sports at recess.
Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.
Well, no shit, GAYlene. What kind of children are we raising? I remember almost killing myself when I tried to see how high the swing would go, then jumped out at the apogee, and had my fall broken by a small tree. You gonna tell kids they can't be stupid, can't have fun, can't knock each other down? I tell ya, it's the apocalypse.

Yes, this is the same township that wanted to ban dodgeball a few years ago. What a bunch of milk-drinking, cake-eating pansies. Before you know it, we'll have a nation of girly-men, but at least they'll have great self-esteem. Until they actually try to accomplish something on their own, that is.

Only in Arkansas...

"It was a drive-by crossbow shooting," said Gilgenbach.

Oookay. That's different.
A man who allegedly shot a crossbow at a motorist after being on the receiving end of an obscene gesture has been charged with committing a terroristic act.

But wait, there's more!
Wayne Allen Dierks, Jr. 26, was arrested Sunday and is also charged with possession of an instrument of crime, driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended driver's license.

And there was drinking involved?? I'm shocked.
A police report said that Gilgenbach admitted to making an obscene gesture at Dierks, but the motorist on Monday said he could not recall that incident.

Hmmm, no recollection of the event, huh? What IS it with people from Arkansas? At least he didn't ask for a definition of "obscene".

Gun control bill's co-author helps kill it

California politics, and in particular, San Francisco politics crack me up. Consider the ridiculous AB352, proposed by Paul Koretz of West Hollywood, which would have required that semiautomatic handguns leave a microscopic ID on the back of shell cases they fired. Nevermind that the technology is sci-fi, and nevermind that criminals would easily circumvent this future tech, Leland Yee of San Francisco was not be dissuaded by such trivialities in his support of the bill. He voted FOR it THREE separate times.

But then a funny thing happened on the way to the Assembly floor. Yee apparently changed his mind. Sort of.

As the acting speaker when the bill came up for consideration, Yee had the power to manage the pace of bills being voted on. When this bill came up for a vote, the "yes" voters weren't on the floor. Yee zoomed right through the process, and it came up 3 votes short, after Yee himself abstained. The kiss of death.

Here's the kicker:
Under Assembly rules, since Yee wasn't the deciding vote, he was allowed to go back after the bill had died and change his vote to "yes." Which he did.

Thus, Yee can still brag that he officially voted for the bill -- even though his actions helped kill it.

How's that for politics?
Works for me.

Taliban official warns of Ramazan attack on US

PESHAWAR: The head of the Islamabad-based Al-Quds Media Centre has received an audio message from a senior Taliban leader in which he asked Muslims living in the US to leave the country as soon as possible "because God’s punishment would fall on America in the month of Ramazan."
Give me a call, and I'll help you pack. Buh-bye. Thanks for coming.

Gun Report S&W M&P40

Picked up a new S&W M&P40 last weekend and was able to shoot it at Wednesday night's match. Ran about 100 rounds through the gun with no issues, other than my own brain farts. The rounds I shot were a mixed bag of either 180g FMJs from Precision Delta, or 185g moly coated Precision bullets. Either way, the rounds were making about 145-147pf.

Initial impressions of the M&P40 are good. I like the trigger, and with the large grip insert, the pistol feels like my Rock Ranch 2011 on the backstrap and like a standard 1911 on the front strap. It points like my 2011 and feels good in the hanb. Unlike my XD40, which I sold off to finance another project, the M&P40 fits my hands just about perfectly, and I can get good contact on the grip with my left hand.

Controls are where you think they should be - and if you're a lefty there is a built in slide release on the right side of the gun as well as the standard left side; and you can reverse the magazine release button so that it's on the right hand side as well.

About the only negatives to this point that I can think of are the sights - which are the dreaded 3 dot, or should I say, now just one dot because I blacked out the rear dots. The notch isn't as wide as I'd like, but that will be remidied when I put a new narrower front sight.

The other negative is the pistol came with a magazine disconnect - which means you can't pull the trigger unless a mag is in the gun. Needless to say, I'll be disconnecting the disconnect because for shooting matches, it's a pain in the ass to unload and show clear when you have to put a mag back in the gun.

All in all, if the pistol proves to be reliable and functions properly in all conditions, I'd say that the M&P is a keeper. So far, I lubed the pistol when I got home from picking it up, and won't give it a cleaning until it starts jamming up.

We'll see how long that takes.

(side note - my broadband went down and I'm in dial-up hell which is not letting my upload any images. As soon as broadband comes back up I'll post something)

Looks like proof of global cooling to me!

In a fascinating article, Reuters tells us of a new discovery:

a short-necked plesiosaur, a prehistoric marine reptile the size of a bus, that they believe is the first complete skeleton ever found.

The 150 million year old remains of the 33-foot ocean going predator were found in August on the remote Svalbard Islands of the Arctic, the University of Oslo announced.

How cool is that?

Speaking of cool - you'll note of course that a prehistoric Reptile was found in the Arctic, right?

Anyone else see the irony here?

More climate hysteria

Here's a lovely article thanks to our good friends at the AP on how the Northeast is going to turn into a sweltering desert in the next 100 years if we don't do something!! Anything!! Now!!

Scientists Issue Global Warming Report Wednesday, October 4, 2006 8:52 PM
EDT
The Associated Press
By LINDA A. JOHNSON TRENTON, N.J.

(AP) - Global warming could strain the Northeast's power grid, farms, forests and marine fisheries by the next century unless carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 3 percent each year, according to a report released Wednesday.

Keep in mind dear reader, that human contribution to carbon dioxide emissions constitute a whopping .1 of 1 percent. And that's world wide - not just in the Northeast!! You'll notice, of course, they didn't associate an actual COST with reducing emissions, we are supposed to cut back...

The climate in the nine states - from New Jersey and Pennsylvania up to Maine - could become like that of the South with longer, much hotter summers and warmer winters with less snow, the report by the Union of Concerned Scientists said.

Wow, so growing seasons would be longer and more food could be produced?

"This has enormous implications for human health. It puts a lot of stress on the energy system. It could lead to blackouts," said Katherine Hayhoe, an associate
professor of geosciences at Texas Tech University and a lead author of the two-year study.

Golly. Blackouts. If the eco-nazis would let us build more power plants to handle the increased demand, then do you really think blackouts would be an issue? Hmmmmm?

If power plant and auto emissions of carbon dioxide - considered the main culprit in global warming - continue unabated, average temperatures in the Northeast could rise between 6.5 degrees and 12.5 degrees by the end of the century, she said.

A shift to cleaner, renewable energy sources would cut that increase inhalf, she said. The study said Boston could see its number of 90-degree-plus summer days jump from one to 40 if no changes are made. New York City could have 70.

Yeah, right. 70 days over 90? It seems that we had about that number of days down here over 100!! And look, we somehow managed to survive. Why don't you ask the folks out West how THEY manage to survive!

Doug Inkley, senior science adviser at the National Wildlife Federation, said the report was done by top-tier scientists and backs up his group's research showing a warmer climate in the Northeast will push out temperature-sensitive species from sugar maple and northern pine trees to songbirds and trout.

"This report is yet another wake-up call we cannot ignore," Inkley said.

The National Wildlife Federation?? Yet another unbiased source. Great job AP!!

The report targeted the Northeast because it is the world's seventh-largest source of emissions, behind the U.S. as a whole and five other nations, and because the region's leaders have taken steps to reduce emissions and could spur efforts elsewhere.

Mike MacCracken of The Climate Institute, a former head of the interagency group that did climate assessments under a Clinton-era research program, called the report "a high-quality job" that gives "pretty reliable indications of the amount of change."
Source #2 for this great piece of work is a Clinton hack?? No bias here!

John R. Christy, director of the Earth System Science Center at University of Alabama-Huntsville, said regional analyses he's done indicate the latest climate models can't predict well for a region, especially for rain and snow.

He said the report's recommendations - mostly centered on replacing or upgrading buildings, cars and appliances with more energy-efficient ones - won't
have much effect on the total amount of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere, partly because energy demand will keep growing.

Holy crap Batman!! Two whole paragraphs dedicated to a contrary point of view! It's a new record!
--- On the Net: Union of Concerned Scientists report: http://www.ucsusa.org/

You'll note, dear reader, that there is no alternative website listed where a concerned reader could go find information to counter the sky is falling propoganda from the eco-nazis. You'll also be happy to find, if you were to go to their sage website, that not only are they worried about climate change, but Bush dropping a nuke on Iran!

Teachers and Guns?

Vote now!

A Kalifornia TV station is currently hosting a poll to decide if we should arm school teachers or not. Right now it's at 52% yes, 48% no.

More surprising (or not) to me than the poll results in Kalifornia, was the Democrat add running right across the top of the screen. I guess that's the news media at work for ya right there.

Camp Crawford (?) is in Town

Omigosh - we got hippies! This looks to be part of the stupidity that Michelle Malkin warned us about.

This is what was going on right around the corner from my office, on Northbound I-35 in Lewisville today. I got a call from Catfish, who was heading home, and got caught in the traffic that these folks were manufacturing. Being the enterprising blogger I am, I grabbed my trusty digital camera and went to get a first-hand look.

Catfish said that bus looked familiar, like the one at Cindy Sheehan's gang at Crawford. Sure enough, I had a young man from the Crawford newspaper ("the" paper, or "a" paper? Beats me), approach me and ask who I was and what I thought. I shared that I am but a humble blogger with the humble Texican Tattler, and I thought that they were creating a traffic jam on OU/Texas weekend. "That's not until tomorrow," says he. "The Norman campus closes on Friday," quoth I. "But, that's not until tomorrow," reiterates he. "And therefore, the students, including my son, are coming home today," I explained.

Furthermore, it was unfathomable to him that holding such a protest in such a pro-Bush, pro-Republican stronghold would create any type of consternation for anyone. I asked him if he thought those horn honks and middle fingers were symbols of support where he came from. I think that sums up the depth of thought process of the worker bees in this organized "protest." I had to spell "Texican" for him twice.

However, let's step back and look at what the organizers have managed:

A traffic-stopping protest in a major metropolitan area, in a high-traffic zone, on a very high-traffic day. There were handlers that descended on the police when they arrived to keep tabs on things. My suspicion is they had some sort of legal training. There were drinks, well-made signs (along with some hand-made ones, to be fair), and a shameful, disrespectful display of American flags flown upside down and draped on their bodies. Note the couple of guys wearing BDU/camo pants.
A well-equipped bus, with mirrored tint, propane power sources, satellite dish, air-conditioning, professional paint job and looking to be in very good repair. It appears it may be a rental from the Texas Pop Festival (more hippie evidence!). Note the "Texas" flag with a peace sign, displayed over the entrance. It's backwards, and smacks of a lack of familiarity with the State of Texas. Or maybe they did it just to be contrary. Either way, it tells me something. Just like Catfish before me, I suspect that the organizers ain't from around here.

In any event, I'm sure it'll be on the evening news and/or the newspaper. People like this don't really care about their cause - they care about the sentiment they generate, and they don't care who they make angry doing it.

That's right - the people driving north on I-35 were NOT giving them peace signs in return.

Pimp Daddy sums it up well: if you really want to convince me of your commitment, show me some Jim Jones action. Don't just make the Kool-Aid, drink it!

Red To Green

Last week I posted a link to an excellent speech from Senator James Inhofe, completely debunking the global warming hysteria. He used a plethora of facts, dates, and names from the scientific "community" to back up his assertions.

The Law Dog was kind enough to pick up the discussion and a lively debate erupted on his comments, with the typical suspects arguing for us to curb our energy usage, etc. I replied that the whole environmental movement was nothing more than the old Reds now preaching Green. In other words, the old socialists wearing a different hat.

Now today, I see this article in a British paper telling us just that.

The article claims that if we only spend one TRILLION dollars over the next generation, then we, as in, the West, can reduce our carbon dioxide emissions. Now, when you take into consideration that the total amount of manmade carbon dioxide in greenhouse gases equals .1 of 1 percent of all carbon dioxide produced, then you could see why I'm skeptical.

Now, the socialists come into play here:

Turbo-charged growth in emerging economies is helping to drag billions of people out of poverty across Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe. But according to PwC, the price will be paid by sharp rises in global energy consumption and carbon emissions. They say it means the rich nations that have done most to cause the problem must take more drastic action to reduce their environmental impact.

That's right dear readers - even though the West has already drastically reduced greenhouse emissions (keep that .1 of 1 percent in mind...), and the developing (as in, poor) countries are producing MORE greenhouse gases, it's up to the rich West (as in, the United States) to pay the bill.

Anyone read a copy of Marx lately?

Remember - the socialists turned environmentalists want us to spend ONE TRILLION DOLLARS to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions from .1 of one percent to zero while the developing countries around the world pay nothing, and continue to emit more greenhouse gases. Just what do you think that will do to their economies and what do you think that would do to ours, comrade?

Global Warming debunked

Wow, where's all the press coverage I wonder? I would imagine that you won't see any coverage because to fully educate the public as to the bullshit that is "global warming" would take more than a 30 second sound byte that states we're facing the greatest crises of all mankind's history.

Read it all.

Since 1895, the media has alternated between global cooling and warming scares during four separate and sometimes overlapping time periods. From 1895 until the 1930’s the media peddled a coming ice age.

From the late 1920’s until the 1960’s they warned of global warming. From the 1950’s until the 1970’s they warned us again of a coming ice age. This makes modern global warming the fourth estate’s fourth attempt to promote opposing climate change fears during the last 100 years.

We're gonna be on TV!

We had a little filming session with Fox 4 News' Richard Ray, who has a segment called "Lone Star Adventures." Click on the title link above for the archive of his pieces. We're going to be on the October 1st segment, which airs towards the end of the 9PM newscast on Sunday.

What was the topic, you say? Why, shooting, of course. If you're in the DFW area, be sure to tune in.

Update: here's the link from the main page.

Owens camp disputes police report

The link above leads to the police transcript of the events. Of course, TO's handlers are denying everything, saying that he had mixed "supplements" with his pain medication. If by "supplements" you mean "the rest of his pain medication," then that agrees with what the police, EMS, and hospital have said.

I cannot WAIT to hear the rest of this story.

He spent life picking himself up

After reading this guy's obituary, I'm feeling like life is pretty good.
'That was when he broke his back for the first time,' his sister recalled.
The first time?
The third major accident ... involved an out-of- town car accident. It left Cook, then a promising Colorado State University student, with severe brain damage and in a semi-vegetative coma for more than five months.
But he fought his way back:
When at last Cook recuperated, he found a job as an assistant computer programmer at Denver's Medicare office.
Well, at least that part figures.

It's amazing this guy managed to live 54 years.

Before being hit and killed by a car, that is.

Cooper Passes Away

Like him or hate him, a pioneer in combat pistol-craft has passed away. While I don't agree with everything Cooper has said, I recognize that the shooting world was made better because of him - without his influence, there would be no such thing as "Practical Shooting" and for that, I am grateful.

Dishwasher Salmon

Poaching fish in the dishwasher is a virtually foolproof way to shock your friends, prepare a succulent meal and do the dishes -- all at the same time. I've poached salmon in more than 100 dishwashers on three continents. There's never been a dull party.
Whee. I bet those are some fun parties, huh? As if salmon doesn't stink enough, make all your dishes for the next 2 weeks smell like it. Party on, dude.

SCHWARZENEGGER GIVES UP HUMMERS

The funny headline is what originally caught my eye, but after reading the article, I'd like to say, " What a homo".
Arnold is a Republican (at least in name), rides a motorcycle without a license or a helmet, and has made countless movies depicting gun violence. Who the hell is he trying to impress? Republicans need to learn that if you have an (R) next to your name, it doesn't matter what you do, the Dems are always going to hate you. I can't believe he caved to Al Gore and his minions on this.

Mum's the Word, Lest We Provoke a Lethal Tantrum

Brilliant!! Remember, islam is the religion of peace until you disagree with it. Then, they hack off your head.

If you mock Islam with a drawing or a novel, you get riots and dead people. News of mishandled holy books yields riots and dead people. Insufficiently reverent short films by a Dutchman yields a dead person, specifically the Dutchman.

At the risk of making a generalization: The secular right seems more tolerant of Christianity, and skeptical towards large swaths of Islam. The secular left often seems annoyed and contemptuous towards American religion -- unless the pastor on the dais insists Jesus would have been a board member of Planned Parenthood -- and oddly protective of Islam. Not because they believe in it; heavens, no. Some progressives are simply besotted by any civilization not their own.

The Pope must die, says Muslim

Muslim outrage is so convenient. For the most part, when Muslims are perpetrating lies and violence against innocent men, women, and children, there is NO Muslim outrage. There are no protests in the street, no calls for imams to be beheaded, no insults hurled at Islam.

But the moment an Infidel dares to present even a hint of doubt to their sacred religion, all bets are off. Apparently, words of a non-Muslim are enough to justify the murders of other non-Muslims. I suppose by even writing this, I'm making myself a potential target for capital punishment.

Sure, we'll hear some well-meaning Muslim somewhere using the same boiler-plate denouncement of these protesters who are calling for the Pope to be killed. They'll say, "this is against our teachings," and basically tell the world that Islam is a good and moral religion. And for the most part, they're absolutely correct.

However, not all followers or even teachers of Islam are good and moral people. The same can be said of most world religions, including Christianity.

When Christian leaders do or teach wrong, it makes the news, and the legal system goes into action. However, when's the last time you saw a Christian blow up a marketplace full of innocent civilians because a Muslim pointed out what was wrong with Christianity?

The religion of peace. My ass.

Hugo Chavez: Theory that U.S. orchestrated Sept. 11 attacks 'not absurd'

As much as it galls me, I think we owe a debt of gratitude to the neo-Marxist pseudo-dictator Hugo Chavez, the so-called "president" of Venezuela for helping nail the lid on the coffin of one of the most ridiculous and nauseating conspiracy theories ever espoused by the far left- and right-wing nutcases. How's that, you say? Because he has suggested that he supports the theory.

Now, you and I know that the main reason he supports this theory is because of his blind hatred of President George Bush. However, in the fog of this blind rage, here's what's happened: one of the most vitriolic, feared, and hated dictators of the 21st century supports this conspiracy theory. This holds the same credence as having Fidel Castro himself make the same statement. In fact, that's pretty much what Chavez is: a mouthpiece for the Marxist leader of Cuba.

If you are one of those deranged individuals that actually believes that any of the last 3 or 4 Presidents of the United States would perpetrate a public attack on their own innocent civilians in an attempt to gain political or financial gain, then all I can do is pity you. Granted, they have ALL made mistakes (some more than others, mind you) that allowed the enemies of our Republic to perpetrate terrorist attacks on us, but remember this: we are at war with Islamic fundamentalists (whatever THAT means), and they want to kill us - men, women, children - combatants and non-combatants, and will do anything to perpetrate their mayhem and violence against a society that they simply cannot comprehend in their barbarian brains. While I hold no great love for the incursions of a Federal government on private lives, neither do I believe (nor has anyone convinced me) that they 1) would kill thousands in a staged "terrorist" attack, nor 2) do I believe our Federal government is organized enough to pull it off, keep the truth hidden from ALL sources, and sell it as a terrorist attack! Hell, Bill Clinton couldn't keep a simple BJ secret.

If you buy any of that nonsense, then by all means pay heed to Hugo Chavez. You deserve what you get.

Clinton spin machine still working

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the Clinton spin machine is back in the forefront of our lives. It would seem they're still working on Clinton's legacy, and aren't letting the facts get in the way.

It is a fact that the Clinton administration had several shots at Bin Laden and didn't take them.

It is a fact that the Clinton administration's withdrawal from Somalia gave strength and courage to Bin Laden as the terrorists figured the American government had no stomach for a fight.

It is a fact that the Clinton administration wanted to treat terrorists as criminals, and not terrorists.

It is a fact that Sandy Berger stole National Archive documents - something that would land you and me in jail if we did the same thing.

It is a fact that the Clinton administration slashed military spending and reduced our military strength significantly.

It is a fact that the 9/11 attacks had been in the works and under planning for years - well before George Bush became President of the United States.

But, if you were to discuss these facts with the Clinton spin machine, then you're fabricating history.

I find it highly entertaining that the same people who have no problem in divulging state secrets in the New York Times have a problem with talking about the facts of the Clinton administration.

Hottest Sauces in the World

The hottest stuff I've ever personally sampled is Dave's Insanity Sauce. I touched a drop of it to my little finger, then touched my finger to my tongue. I was instantly blinded, and almost choked to death. Mind you, I put Tabasco Habanero on my eggs for breakfast, and go through a large bottle of Tabasco in about 3 weeks. I like my hot sauce. None of that candy-assed Frank's or "Louisiana" so-called "hot" sauce in my house.

UN Declares Self Defense NOT a Human Right

H/T to Michale Bane.

And we wonder why the UN puts dicatators and thugs in charge of their human rights divisions?

Un-freaking believable.

Self-defence is sometimes designated as a “right”. There is inadequate legal support for such an interpretation. Self-defence is more properly characterized as a means of protecting the right to life and, as such, a basis for avoiding responsibility for violating the rights of another.

That's right, boys and girls. Your tax dollars are supporting an organization that gives greater rights and privleges to those who would wish you and yours dead.

No more Miller Time

Before you go buy your beer for the Labor Day Holiday, consider that Miller is financially supporting illegal immigrants. Speaking for myself, I've had my last Miller product.

Fortunately, there's plenty of other good beer to drink. H/T to Michelle Malkin. (is there anyone else out there doing a better job of documenting the ongoing illegal alien flood??)

Here's the article, I inlcuded it as it requires registration....

Why this immigrant rights march is brought to you by Miller
By Oscar AvilaTribune staff reporterPublished September 1, 2006

Marchers had to duck into fast-food restaurants for water when they first took to Chicago's streets in support of illegal immigrants five months ago. At the next two marches, family-owned grocery stores offered free bottled water from trucks emblazoned with their names. This time, as demonstrators march from Chinatown to House Speaker Dennis Hastert's (R-Ill.) Batavia office this weekend, they will have Miller Brewing Co., as a sponsor. The brewer has paid more than $30,000 for a planning convention, materials and newspaper ads publicizing the event.

The support of a major corporation for a controversial political cause shows how fierce the competition has become to woo the growing market of Latino consumers. For Miller, the march offered a special chance to catch up. This spring the brewer drew the ire of pro-immigrant forces over contributions to U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who sponsored legislation that would crack down on illegal immigrants. That prompted a short-lived boycott by some Latino groups. Now, march advertisements feature not just the organizing committee's trademark blue globe but Miller's logo and a Spanish translation of its "Live Responsibly" slogan, a company effort to build goodwill among Latinos.

But this march is no Cinco de Mayo parade. The politically charged event will promote a controversial plan to end deportations and offer legal status for all 11 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants. That creates potential pitfalls for any businesses lending support, experts say.At the same time business sponsorships have forced activists to confront whispers that they are commercializing their movement when they accept much-needed donations."We would love to have 20 corporate logos. It doesn't mean we are selling the movement out," said Jorge Mujica, a member of the March 10 Committee. "The principles and demands remain the same. They are helping out this movement and we are happy with that."Labor unions remain the movement's backbone with four major unions bringing at least 600 marchers on buses from throughout Chicago. Religious groups have been key too. Some marchers will bed down in churches and a mosque.

But businesses have become vital to this weekend's Immigrant Workers Justice Walk, which will cover 45 miles to Hastert's district office. Hundreds of marchers plan to cover the entire span from Friday through Monday, and organizers need food and water for them.Sometimes political and commercial messages are mingled. At a July march, Chicago-based food producer V&V Supremo printed signs with its logo that urged "Moratorium Now, Legalization Yes."Jimenez Market, an area chain, had its sign on display as workers passed out more than 5,000 bottles of water and other supplies worth nearly $17,000. Co-owner Jose Perez acknowledged it is good publicity but stressed that "we are supporting our people. Without them, our business would go downhill.

"This weekend, the Los Comales restaurant plans to donate 500 tortas, Mexican sandwiches filled with steak, ham and other toppings. The Laredo Bakery is donating bread while other restaurants are donating water, fruit and other supplies, organizers said. Those businesses are natural allies--"part of the same brotherhood," as one marketer put it.But the presence of Miller at a welcoming reception the day before the Aug. 12-13 planning convention raised eyebrows.

The convention brought together labor unions, anti-war groups, immigrant service organizations and even socialist political candidates.Hours before bashing NAFTA and U.S. foreign policy, participants at the Aug. 11 reception mingled with the Miller Girls, the company's public relations ambassadors, amid a display of Miller logos. That Miller was involved in the first place is one measure of the growing power of immigrants. After the boycott announcement, the company approached march organizers to try to find common ground, and agreed to back the march organizers' efforts.

Miller is also bankrolling informational ads in Voces Migrantes, or Migrant Voices, a community newspaper in Chicago, and has promised scholarships for area Latinos.

Mathew Romero, the company's local market development manager, said Miller felt it was important to speak out against Sensenbrenner's legislation, though his campaign was one of many the company supported.Romero noted that company founder Frederick Miller was a German immigrant and many current executives are foreign nationals. Miller is now part of London-based SABMiller.

Romero said he wasn't worried that some opponents of illegal immigration would be upset at the company's support of "the free movement of people, labor, goods and services."

"As long as you are stacking facts against facts, they are free to make their own decisions. We will stand by our positions," he said.George San Jose, president of the San Jose Group, a Chicago-based marketing company specializing in the Hispanic market, said he understands why companies chase Hispanic purchasing power, which tops $700 billion annually in the U.S. Brewers, he said, have been especially aggressive.

But San Jose would advise clients that there are better ways."A company sponsoring one of the two sides of the immigration debate is no different than a company sponsoring groups for or against abortion [rights]. It's one of those heated political debates that companies should stay clear of," he said.At the request of march organizers, media executive Robert Armband sent e-mails to thousands of business contacts, asking if they would consider helping the March 10 Committee."It certainly is an opportunity to reach the masses, but it might not be the right vehicle to come out as a sponsor," said Armband, publisher and chief executive of La Raza, a Chicago newspaper.March organizers say they have not made any full-fledged sales pitches to major corporations and are having internal discussions about whether they should make a real push. That can be a tough decision, according to march organizer Gabe Gonzalez.Gonzalez said he represents those in the movement--maybe half the total, he thinks -- who don't even consider themselves capitalists. Many have been involved with labor campaigns targeting specific companies.

March organizers shot down a suggestion that they approach Coca-Cola, for example, because of what they perceive as the company's labor abuses in the developing world, a cause celebre among liberal activists.

Although immigrant activists see legalization as an issue of social justice, Gonzalez said corporations might back the idea as a way to protect their bottom line. Whatever the motivations, Gonzalez said he would cooperate with almost any company willing to back the cause."That's the nature of politics. You form coalitions based on mutual self-interest," Gonzalez said. "So will we work with corporations? We will work with anyone who will work with us."

Daniel wins Miss Universe

This dorky kid asked Miss Universe to prom. And she said yes.
"When I saw the letter from Daniel, I thought "that's cute", he went to that effort and he was nice and I've never been to Bathurst," Hawkins said.

"I didn't have anything in my diary for that day and I love doing random things - and school formals rock."
I guess you don't know until you ask, huh?

Too bad the kid looks like he styles his hair by sticking his head in the toilet and flushing.

Let Me Show You How Stupid Kalifornia Is.

The lawyers in California are at it yet again.
AB 352 would “expand the definition of unsafe handgun to include semiautomatic pistols that are not designed and equipped with a microscopic array of characters, that identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol, etched into the interior surface or internal working parts of the pistol, and which are transferred by imprinting on each cartridge case when the firearm is fired.”
I'm loathe to even dignify this stupidity with commentary. However, once again, their illogic simply penalized the law-abiding citizen, and makes it easy for the criminal to circumvent. The blog that this link goes to does an admirable job of fisking this red herring, so enjoy.

Today's match report

Here's me ripping through a quick 16 round stage at today's DAPS match at Elm Fork.
3 targets on the left and right, close together in the shape of a pyramid, with a no shoot smack in the middle of both arrays partially covering all three targets. Two low targets were through the middle port. All targets were between 7-10 yds out.

And yes, it was still stinking hot.
Dan shooting turtles!

Dan tore up this run on some "classic" ipsc targets. (why they are called classic is beyond me...) One minor little issue at the end where he took an extra shot on a Virgina Count stage - earned him two penalties, which messed up an otherwise great run.
Dan's making the switch to shooting a real gun after ditching the drastic plastic.

Here's a story you won't see in Texas

Good God! What is wrong with the people of Olympia, Washington? I know the Pacific northwest is a liberal haven but this is way outta hand!!

It would seem the good people of Olympia are being terrorized.

Not by bears.

Not by mountain lions.

Not by wolves or coyotes.

But......

Wait for it......

raccoons!!

And to date, none of the sheeple interviewed have done anything more serious than buy mace so they can spray the cute little raccoons and get them to leave their poor little house cats alone.

The 'coons are even on a schedule:

"It's like a freeway in the back yard," she said. "It's like clockwork. They come between 9 and 9:30 every night."

Ok. Here's a newsflash to the idiots in Olympia. Go to the gun store. Buy a shotgun. Wait for the little bastards to come tramping through your backyard. Load the shotgun, point it at the raccoons in question, and pull the trigger.

Coupla nights of that and your raccoon problem will soon disappear.

Down here, we'd call that free entertainment.

Some hurricane season, eh?

Granted, we're only now getting into the 'good' part of hurricane season, but still, where are all the global warming freaks, including Al Gore and Bill Clinton who were trying to tell us all last year that global warming was causing all the extra hurricanes and that it's only going to get worse?

The slow hurricane season and the cooling sea surface temperatures might be somewhat surprising to the public. Media reports over the last year have suggested that, since global warming will only get worse, and last year's hurricane activity was supposedly due to global warming, this season might well be as bad as last season. But it appears that Mother Nature might have other plans.

Or, in other words, they don't know what they're talking about and were only pulling the crises out of their copious asses??

Dems in a state of fear

If you ask me, the constant harassment of Joe Lieberman by Howard Dean, John Kerry, etc etc is a sign they are truly afraid of his run as an independent. I mean, really, if they thought he'd lose, then just let him waste money and time and also cause the Republican candidate to spend more money and time on campaigning against two candidates instead of one. If they really think, as Kerry is saying, that the people of Connecticut have spoken and want Lieberman out, then what's there to worry about come election time?

Little ole me think the dems are scared to death of losing another seat in the Senate.

I-35 Open Again After Fire In Arbuckle Mountains

See this?
Authorities diverted traffic 20 miles east to U.S. 177, which was congested with heavy traffic. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
That was me, my son, his friend, and his father, in 4 separate vehicles, moving the boys into their apartment at OU. The other dad was driving the U-Haul truck. We moved about 20 miles in 4.5 hours. After about 4 hours, the U-Haul started spewing transmission fluid and stalling. Was it remote? Not even digital roam was available on any of our phones for most of the way. Now you know why there were no reports of injuries or damage.

It took us 7.5 hours for a 2.5 hour trip. What was the big holdup? Three cops in Sulphur, OK, directing traffic from 177 North to Highway 17 West, which led back to I-35. May those smokey-bear hat-wearing mouth-breathers rot in hell for eternity.

Another false alarm?

A few days ago, we talked about the Brits considering profiling of arabs in the ongoing war on terror.

Sadly, it doesn't appear to be the case here in the US. Don't know if you heard or not, but there was a scare at a West Virginia airport today when two bottles of some sort of liquid (didn't think you could carry liquid on a plane now??) set off the bomb sniffing dog. And, oh yeah, she's from Pakistan. However, never fear, the PC cops are here!!

In response to reporters’ questions, McKinley confirmed the woman was of Middle Eastern descent. She said the woman was not treated any differently because of her nationality.

That's a damn shame. I'll keep yelling it as loud as I can, but until we stop worrying about putting people's feelings in front of our country's national security, we're screwed.

And oh yeah, if it was me, and I was trying to blow stuff up, I do believe I'd have a lot of dry runs before hand to see just what the response was going to be. But that's just me.

The Day the King Died

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was 12 years old. I was sitting on my parent's bed watching Gilligan's Island when the program was interrupted to tell the world that the King was dead. I remember becoming overcome with sadness. I sat in disbelief as tears welled up in my eyes. The King was dead.
Elvis was true greatness, and I miss him.

World's Smallest Functional Revolver

Talk about your concealed carry gun. This sucker is tiny. It fires a bullet that's a 2.34mm caliber (that's .09 inches), with a muzzle velocity of 426.5 ft/sec. The ballistics are a hoot. Looks like a maximum range of about 120 meters, and it drops below zero at about 37.5 meters. I bet it would sting, though.

Breast implants saves woman after Hezbollah attack

One Israeli woman has received an unexpected boost from her breast implants during the Lebanon war -- the silicone embeds saved her life during a Hezbollah rocket attack, a doctor said. "The young woman went through surgery two years ago to have a larger chest," he said. "During the war she was wounded in the chest by shrapnel" that got stuck in the implants instead of penetrating further.

I would like to make an honest and heartfelt plea to all you ladies out there. PLEASE think of your safety and go get breast implants. It is one way you can insure your safety during these crazy times. I would also ask that you email me with pictures of your implants so I can stop worrying about you. Before and after pictures would be good, but just before or just after will be fine, also. It really doesn't matter, just send them.
Thank you and be safe,
Big D

Let's hope England does the right thing

The Brits are actually thinking about profiling muslims. I hope they do it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Until we get over our squeamish-ness about potentially insulting people, we're going to lose the war.

You know what you say to an "innocent" muslim that you search before he or she gets on a plane or other method of public transportation? "I'm sorry for taking up some of your time. Have a nice flight." But, let's say you actually stop someone from blowing up an airplane because you did the right thing and profiled them? How many Scandinavian grandmas do we have to watch get stopped at the security checkpoints while the persian in the flowing robes walks right by before we wise up?

Ask any cop - profiling works.

However, the highest ranking muslim policeman in Britain has given warning that:

profiling techniques based on physical appearance were already causing anger and mistrust among young Muslims. Tarique Ghaffur, an assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said: “We must think long and hard about the causal factors of anger and resentment.

Let's think about that statement, shall we?? Basically what he's saying is that if the muslim community thinks they're getting the shaft, there will be riots, problems, etc etc etc. How asinine of a statement is that? I mean, really, let's substitute any other religious group for muslims and can you see that group rioting in the streets because they feel they're being discriminated against? I mean, really, if someone will riot, burn, loot, and kill people over a cartoon - who's to say what they'll do if they get profiled??

How about this? I'll be insulted, and severely mistrust the TSA if I'm pulled over to get checked out while the arab behind me does not. You don't see a lot of people worried about hurting my feelings, do you?

It's insanity.

Seven die in toilet accident

Five neighbours then rushed to the men's aid, lowering themselves into the pit, but succumbed to poisoning caused by accumulated gas, the site said.
Sounds like one of our road trips.

There is No Clash of Civilizations...

You may have already seen this clip, but I just did after someone pointed it out to me. It's brilliant. I'd love to see the whole thing unedited, because this woman hits the nail squarely on the head.
It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and the violation of these rights, on other hand. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings. What we see today is not a clash of civilizations. Civilizations do not clash, but compete.
There's a brief appearance of some imam-looking guy who falls back to his dogma, and she sets him straight, but pronto. Watch it.

Sunday Night Football?

Is this weird or what? Yeah, I know it's only pre-season, but it's nice to have pro football back on TV. But watching Al and John on NBC, on Sunday night, is just plain weird.
