But here we have this 72 year old, lifetime politician - who's for term limits, by the way - winning.

Granted, since Thompson left the race I'm not thrilled with any of the Republican candidates. But McCain???

Fun with steel

Haven't posted some shooting video in awhile, so here you go.

We shot steel today at the Dallas Pistol Club. Lots of fun. In a steel match, you shoot each stage 5 times. Your worst run is tossed out, and then you add up the time of the stages that are left. At DPC, we usually shoot 5 stages, so that's a minimum of 125 rounds downrange. Since the cost of ammo is going out the roof, several of us have started to shoot steel with .22s - I can shoot the match for about $6-$7 which beats the hell out of what I'd pay in ammo to shoot the same thing in .45.

I'm shooting the Ruger MkIII I got for Christmas with a cheap Tasco red dot scope on it - word on the street is that by shooting with the dot, that will speed up my shooting with the iron sights as well. Time will tell, but it sure is fun!

The Gun Show Loophole?

Once again, those folks who will stop at nothing to destroy our right to self defense are clamoring to close the infamous "gun show loophole".

Survivors and families of the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings faced off Monday against gun-rights advocates over a bill that would prevent criminals and the mentally ill from buying firearms at gun shows

Ah, yes, the gun show loophole. That dirty little word that wrecks all sorts of havoc across our great land. Those who would want to take away our right to defend ourselves will tell you that anyone can walk off the street and buy a gun at a gun show without any paperwork whatsoever. No background check, nothing.

This is a perfect example of shades of truth. At gun shows where licensed dealers and private citizens can sell guns (or whatever), you must fill out the requisite forms and get the mandatory NICS done if you purchase a gun from a Federally licensed dealer. No ifs, ands, or buts. However, if I (and I'm not an FFL) wanted to sell a gun to someone, then I could, without having to fill out the forms or file a report or ask permission from the government.

And therein, my friends, lies the dirty little secret behind wanting to close the infamous gun show loophole. If you close the gun show loophole and make everyone, licensed or not, file a form with the government then you are now infringing on my right to conduct business as I see fit, and with whom I choose. The private sale of a firearm from one person to another would virtually cease. And trust me, my friends, if they can make you fill out a form for purchasing a firearm, where will it stop? And I surely shouldn't have to remind you that the vast majority of criminals don't pay any attention to what the law says about anything. So the only people affected, once again, will be law abiding citizens.

I have been attending gun shows for at least the last 25 years. If you are to believe the liberal's rhetoric, that guns cause crime, then you could expect that gun shows are a virtual crimer fest with mass murders, robbery and mayhem. Strange, but I can't recall a single mass murder (like what happened in Virginia Tech) or for that matter a murder, period, at any gun show. Ever. With all those guns around, you'd think something like that would happen on any given weekend across the country. Why is it that the mass murders and mayhem always seem to happen where guns are not allowed, but in those places where you can find literally thousands of guns in any given spot (like a gun show), there's no crime?

In response to a comment that basically said if the students were allowed to carry guns legally on campus (again, note that the criminal in this case chose to ignore the law), that the rampage could have been stopped, one of the injured students from Va Tech had this little pearl of wisdom:

“I feel sorry for you — the fact that you feel you need to protect yourself in every situation. “You’re afraid of crazy situations happening. I’ve lived through this and I know that I can’t continue in my life afraid of things,” he said, adding that he put his “full trust” in the police to protect society.

Since I share the belief that armed students could have stopped Cho, I will respond to this idiot by stating that yes - not only do I feel the need to protect myself (and my family/friends), but I have the right to do so. If you want to be a sheep, and rely on the Police (oh yes, by the way - how'd that work out the last time?) then by all means feel free.

I don't carry a gun because I'm afraid. I carry a gun because unlike you, sir, I REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM.

Those who would take away our right to self defense refuse to let the facts speak for themselves.

They want everyone to go through a background check - even in the case of a private sale - even though Cho went through a background check - and passed. And with all this fuss about buying a gun through the gun show loophole, surely Cho must have purchased his weapons at a gun show, right?

... Cho did not buy his weapon at a gun show, but supporters [of those who would infringe upon my rights] said that doesn’t matter. The idea, they said, is to reduce the possibility of similar tragedies in the future.

If you want to reduce the possibility of similar tragedies in the future, stop making people helpless victims with your ridiculous gun free zones - which do nothing more than make everyone in them a nice fat target for someone wishing them harm.

Remember people,self defense is a human right. And you will not be taking that right away from me.

Like to smoke? Well, obviously you're too big of an idiot, so we'll make it damn near impossible for you to light one up, even in your own home.

Like to eat McDonalds? Well, obviously, you don't know how bad trans fat is for your health, so we're going to ban it.

Like to drive a big, safe, comfortable car? Well, you obviously don't care for the environment so we'll set CAFE standards so tough, and tax the snot out of gas so you can't afford to buy or drive something safe enough to ensure your survivability in a wreck.

Like to hunt, or shoot guns? Oh well, quite obviously you haven't recognized that the American frontier was officially closed in 1890 and there's no need for you to own such a potentially deadly weapon.

Doubt my words?? Take what has happened in Congress' cafeteria now that "Nanny Nancy" is in charge.

The processed cheese has been replaced with brie. The Jell-O has made way for raspberry kiwi tarts and mini-lemon blueberry trifles. Meatloaf has moved over for mahi mahi and buns have been shunted aside in favor of baguettes.

And this, folks, is only the beginning.

WASHINGTON -- In their legal battle over gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment, gun- control advocates never expected to get a boost from the Bush administration.

But that's just what happened when U.S. Solicitor General Paul D. Clement urged the Supreme Court in a brief Friday to say that gun rights are limited and subject to "reasonable regulation" by the government and that all federal restrictions on firearms should be upheld.

Reasonable regulations include the federal ban on machine guns and other "particularly dangerous types of firearms," he said in the brief. Moreover, the government forbids gun possession by felons, drug users, "mental defectives" and people subject to restraining orders, he said.

"Given the unquestionable threat to public safety that unrestricted private firearm possession would entail, various categories of firearm-related regulation are permitted by the 2nd Amendment," Clement said. He filed the brief in a closely watched case involving Washington, D.C.'s ban on keeping handguns at home for self-defense.

The head of a gun-control group said he was pleasantly surprised by the solicitor general's stand.

Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence, said he saluted the administration for recognizing a need for limits on gun rights.

More than 40 targets were hit, Jan. 10, after precision air strikes destroyed reported al-Qaida safehavens in Arab Jabour. Thirty-eight bombs were dropped within the first 10 minutes, with a total tonnage of 40,000 pounds.

The precision air strikes supported Operation Phantom Phoenix, the overarching operation that includes Operation Marne Thunderbolt.

A joint operation between the Air Force and Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, required extensive planning to prevent collateral damage and to prevent the use of any area for attacks into Baghdad and against coalition forces.

The Air Force provided two B-1 Bombers and four F-16 fighter jets, aiming at three large target areas. Each bomber passed over twice and the F-16s followed to complete the set. Coordination between the two services was essential in making the operation a success.

Operation Marne Thunderbolt is an ongoing operation aimed at flushing out remaining al-Qaida extremists operating in the southern Arab Jabour area, and to create conditions for improved security.

Soldiers from 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, will join the Iraqi security forces and the members of the Concerned Local Citizens program to continue these offensive operations to keep pressure on the enemy.

A lot of talk is swirling about the internets that Hillary pulled out a narrow win in New Hampshire due to her tearful comments the day before. Added to that, the two guys who were waving signs around at a rally stating "IRON MY SHIRTS" rallied the girl power to step up to the plate for the bat.

OK. Notice the guys start yelling "IRON MY SHIRTS" for a bit before Hillary mentions to the stage hands to "turn up the lights". Really? You're on stage, running for President, and you want MORE attention drawn to your hecklers? I find that rather odd. Then, she makes the comment along the lines of "ah, the remnants of sexism still alive and well." BEFORE the lights come on in the audience. I've been on stage before with all the lights shining down on you. I can tell you my friends, you can't see shit past the stage; hell, I could barely see ON the stage. So you're telling me that Hillary could see and hear what the guys were saying? I don't buy it.

Now, for those folks in New Hampshire that were taken in by Hillary's crocodile tears and this setup on stage - are you really THAT stupid?

REFUSES TO PROCESS TRANSACTIONS . . . Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp. are refusing to process any credit card transactions between federally licensed firearms retailers, distributors and manufacturers -- a move which will severely limit available inventory of firearms and ammunition to military, law enforcement and law-abiding Americans.

The first company to be affected by this decision appears to be firearms distributor CDNN Sports Inc.

"We were contacted recently by First Data/Citi Merchant Services by a June Rivera-Mantilla stating that we were terminated and funds were being seized for selling firearms in a non-face-to-face transaction," said Charlie Crawford, president of CDNN Sports Inc. "Although perfectly legal, we were also informed that no transactions would be processed in the future, even for non-firearms. I find this very frightening."

Murder Suspect May Have Tried To Eat Victim

Hillary says she risked life on White House trips

First off - HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope that 2008 is better for everyone than 2007 was.

You read the title right, folks. The Hildabeast says that her life was in danger during her First Lady trips while she was in the White House. Uh huh, yeah, right.

On Saturday night in Dubuque she pounced, arguing she risked her life on White House missions in the 1990s, including a hair-raising flight into Bosnia that ended in a "corkscrew" landing and a sprint off the tarmac to dodge snipers.

Now we can all tell this is just an out and out lie. No way anyone with ankles that fat is sprinting off anything.

The dictum around the Oval Office in the '90s, she added, was: "If a place was too dangerous, too poor or too small, send the first lady."

Did she really use the term "dictum" and Oval Office in the same sentence?? Shocking! And really, if this were remotely true, could you really blame Bill for sending Her Royal Thighness out somewhere where she could get killed?

Sadly for her, like everything else the Clinton's are involved in, the truth is somewhat different than what she would have us believe:

She was, in fact, leading a goodwill entourage that included baggy-pants funnyman Sinbad, singer Sheryl Crow and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, then 15, according to an account of the March 1995 trip in her autobiography "Living History."
As the plane approached the runway, the pilot ordered the Clintons into the armored front of the plane, Clinton writes.
What's not clear is whether Sinbad or Crow were invited to the cockpit or had to brave it out in the unprotected rear.
