'Peace Mom' Sheehan to Release Book
"I never wrote anything more than a note to excuse my kids from school before Casey was killed, so to see something I wrote in print with my name on it is amazing," Sheehan told The Associated Press by phone from her home in Berkeley, Calif.Man, that's a shocker. Such an eloquent woman, too. Here's a couple of gems from Mother Cynthia:
We are waging a nuclear war in Iraq right now. That country is contaminated. It will be contaminated for practically eternity now.And this one
And I know I don't look like I'm outraged, I'm always so calm and everything, that's because if I started hitting something, I wouldn't stop til it was dead.Who can forget
What can we do to get him out of power? And I'm gonna say the “I” word. Impeach. And we have to have everybody impeached that lied to the American public, and that's the executive branch, and any people in congress, and we gotta go all the way down and we might have to go all the way down to the person who picks up the dogshit in WashingtonRemember this?
"You tell me the truth. You tell me that my son died for oil. You tell me that my son died to make your friends rich. You tell me my son died to spread the cancer of Pax Americana, imperialism in the Middle East. You tell me that, you don't tell me my son died for freedom and democracy...You get America out of Iraq, you get Israel out of Palestine"But wait, there's more!
"We’re not letting them intimidate us. If we get killed out here, know that the Secret Service killed us."Cindy, this is a personal note from me to you:
Report: al-Zarqawi may have been killed in Mosul
I heard this on Fox News (yeah, I know) earlier today. It'd be sweet if it panned out, but I've learned not to get my hopes up too high when dealing with such "sources."

Iran, in U.S. newspaper ad, defends nuclear program
Ok class, multiple choice question here:
If a United States newspaper were to run an add explaining the nuclear (peaceful of course) ambitions of Iran, that newspaper would be the:
A. Washington Times
B. New York Times
C. Houston Chronicle
And the answer is......
Well, it's kind of a trick question considering that both the Chronicle and the Old Gray Lady are both big time moronic papers. But go ahead and read the article to find out.
And the question of the day is:
If your country is sitting on one of the largest oil deposits in the world, you need nuclear power why? Or maybe it's because of the nuclear bombs you're working on?

Yet another "NON" story for the MSM
Why is it the News Media will breathlessly report every US soldier, Marine, or sailor that's killed, wounded, or just fed up but won't report on the successes that they are having?
"As of Nov. 16, the weapons cache consisted of 150,000 7.62 rounds of ammunition, 600 propellant charges, 500 blasting caps, 400 artillery fuses, 150 hand grenades, 150 120-millimeter rounds, 125 rockets, 100 primer charges, 85 82-millimeter mortar rounds, 68 60-millimeter rounds, 50 plastic grenades, 35 anti-tank mines, 13 20-millimeter rockets, 12 RPG launchers, multiple barrels and bags of small-arms ammunition, seven unknown type of missiles, seven rolls of copper wire, three 60-millimeter mortar systems, three 55-gallon drums of fertilizer, three rolls of detonation cord, two 82-millimeter mortar tubes with bases, and one 82-millimeter mortar system."
That is a boatload of munitions and potential IEDs.
The best part of the story is that they were acting on a tip from a local resident. Winning hearts and minds indeed.

Of these, water boarding sounds the "scariest", but hey, where's the bamboo under the fingernails, the pulling off of your fingernails, the broken bones, the cutting, the brutality, the hacking off of your head with a dull knife, the execution of captured prisoners? Oh yes, I forgot - that's what has been done to AMERICAN prisoners in the last few wars we've fought.
I think that what you're seeing is a continuation of the battle between the weenies in the CIA and the White House - and the CIA is coming out looking like a total bunch of pansies.

Congress Rejects Iraq Exit Bill
"Our troops have become the enemy. We need to change direction in Iraq," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a Democratic hawk whose call a day earlier for pulling out troops sparked a nasty, personal debate over the war. After listening to the Democrats politicize the war and show their lack of support for the troops and what they are fighting for by calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, the Republicans tell them to put their money where their mouth is and vote on it. Democrats respond by saying "Oh, never mind".
The House voted 403-3 to reject a nonbinding resolution...Like most Democrats, Murtha voted against the measure.

Zarqawi: Wedding Bombing an Accident
The speaker on the tape, identified as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, also said the group's suicide bombers did not intend to bomb a Jordanian wedding party at an Amman hotel last week, killing about 30 people.I guess he thought he should make the statement (not an apology) since Jordanians were protesting him and the murders.
Earlier Friday, thousands of flag-waving Jordanians thronged downtown Amman in the "March of the Nation," a noisy, emphatic demonstration against the hotel attacks.Al-Zarqawi also went on to say al Qaida in Iraq is not targeting fellow Muslims.
"Cease, cease, al-Zarqawi, you are a villain!" the throng chanted. "Cease, Cease, you terrorist, you are a coward!"
"I came specifically to say to those terrorists and al-Zarqawi that we are all united against them. We do not want them on our land," said Ghazi al-Hajjaj, 43, who traveled from Tafila, 115 miles south of Amman, to attend the rally.
"We want to assure you that ... you are more beloved to us than ourselves," he said. This statement is released the same day that they bomb 2 mosques in Iraq killing 74 worshipers. It's about time we see some outrage over there.
Dinner For Four
Last night at dinner my wife asked the hypothetical, "If you could have dinner with any three people, who would they be, and what would you have for dinner? One can be someone who has past away." I knew she was expecting me to name three politically conservative icons, but my answer was "The Girl, Catfish, and JR, and we would eat BBQ and drink Shiner Bock." I swear she must have gotten a raging head ache from rolling her eyes so far up in her head. She then exclaimed "If you aren't going to play the game right, then don't play!" I said "Okay, it would be Jessica Alba, Elisha Cuthbert, and Catherine Bell, and large quantities of tequila would be served." She was not amused.
Who would you dine with, and what would you have for dinner?
You're gay if you don't play!

I would walk around seemingly unaware of this detail and note peoples' reactions.'Big D, you know anything about this?

Lieutenant Stephen Spear of the Webster Groves Police Department (WGPD) said the police were called to Webster after a report of indecent exposure. Spear wouldn't confirm the suspect's name, but said the suspect approached a table at the career fair with genitalia exposed through a pant zipper. After inquiring if there were any job openings with the company, Spear said the suspect then colored on his genitals with a highlighter from the company's table.

Cheney says war critics 'dishonest, reprehensible'
In the sharpest White House attack yet on critics of the Iraq war, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday accusations that the Bush administration manipulated intelligence to justify the war were a "dishonest and reprehensible" political ploy.Cheney called Democrats "opportunists" who were peddling "cynical and pernicious falsehoods" to gain political advantage while U.S. soldiers died in Iraq.Good job, Mr. Cheney. Please keep it up.
New Documents Reveal Saddam Hid WMD, Was Tied to Al Qaida
Recently discovered Iraqi documents now being translated by U.S. intelligence analysts indicate that Saddam Hussein's government made extensive plans to hide Iraq's weapons of mass destruction before the U.S. invasion in March 2003 - and had deep ties to al Qaida before the 9/11 attacks. The explosive evidence was discovered among "millions of pages of documents" unearthed by the Iraq Survey Group weapons search team, reports the Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes.Check it out. This lists the titles of documents that were found in Iraq that have to do with the development, funding, and hiding WMD, as well as a connection to al Qaida and the Taliban. Of course, the Bush haters out there will ignore this. They never let the truth get in the way of their arguments.

KISS MY ASS, EAGLES FANS!
I can't remember watching anything in a very long time, that I enjoyed as much as the last five minutes of the Cowboys- Eagles football game last night. I HATE the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans. My true hatred started back in 1998 when the Eagles Coach Buddy Ryan had Randall Cunningham fake taking a knee in the final seconds of what was going to be a 30-20 Eagles win. They took a shot at the end zone. Interference was called on the Cowboys and the Eagles punched it in on the next play for an unnecessary score. The following year the Greatness that is Jimmy Johnson was in his first year as the Cowboy's coach when they met the Eagles in what was to be known as the "Bounty Bowl". I was at the game. Buddy Ryan had put a bounty on most of the Cowboys skill position players. They were taking cheap shots all over the place with the intentions of putting them out of the game or worse. They blind sided Zendejas, the kicker, away from the play and knocked him out. They also sent Troy Aikman to the sidelines with a concussion. They met again two weeks later in Philly where the fans threw snowballs with batteries at the Cowboys Coach Jimmy Johnson and Cowboys players. These are the same fans that booed Santa Claus and cheered when Michael Irvin lay motionless on the field after landing on his head and suffered a spinal injury. That happened to be Mike's last game. There are tales of beers getting poured on anybody that wears an opposing team's jersey including women and children. At the Vet they had a holding cell and a Judge that would arraign drunken fans that got a little too out of hand. These are not good fans, they are the sorriest excuse for human beings in the entire country and I hope nothing but failure and an extreem case of herpes on them and everybody in the Eagles organization. After watching shot after shot of the obnoxious Eagles fans dancing around in the stands for the first 56 minutes of the game, nothing was more satisfying than watching shots of those same people sitting in their chairs, silent, with there arms crossed as they contemplated suicide after McNabb threw the interception. Roy Williams returned it for what would be the winning touchdown. McNabb, a true tuff guy and team player has played injured all year trying to give the Eagles the best chance to win. He was injured on the interception play and aggravated the hernia he had been playing with. When he returned to the field after the change of possession, he was booed by those loyal Eagles fans. Classless.
I have one word for the Eagles fans. Scoreboard. The Cowboys dominate the series. Dallas leads the series 53-40. Dallas has faced no team more than Philadelphia and has defeated the Eagles more times (53) than all but two teams (Arizona, 55, and Washington, 54). The Cowboys won 11 consecutive games over the Eagles from 1967-1972, marking the second-longest win streak over one opponent in club history. The Cowboys have had 8 appearances in the Super Bowl and won 5 of them.
You people absolutley suck and I hope your team never wins another game.

Guns- Good, Winning Guns- AWESOME!
While visiting the In-Laws out in East Texas this weekend, we went to the Bradford Volunteer Fire Department's benifit BBQ. They were serving all you can eat BBQ for $7 a person, holding an auction of donated items, and they were raffling a Winchester 94 Ranger rifle. The 94 happened to be the same model as my very first rifle. From the long list of guns that I have bought and sold over the years I regret selling only two. The 94 and my first pistol, a Smith and Wesson 686. It took me all of about a second to get my wallet out and purchase 6 tickets for $5. Later, I was standing outside the roll up door looking at the VFD's new fire truck with my 5 year old when I hear my name called over the loud speaker, followed by a very loud "WOO HOO" from my better half who was inside. This is the second gun I have won this year. The first one was a CZ 75 I won at the Arkansas Sectional USPSA match. Nothing beats winning a gun.

The Fire
Well, today was a nice day to smoke a couple of briskets. I decided that on top of the deck was okay, since I'd watered pretty well earlier. Take note that North Texas has been very, very dry.
After about 2 1/2 hours of smoking, I decided to take a break, and relaxed a bit. A short while later, my neighbor (who had been out painting), rang my doorbell, and with the phone in his ear to 911 yelled, "you got a fire."
I didn't know I could move so fast. At the base of the deck, there were some leaves that had ignited, and involved several square feet of my deck. I grabbed the fire extinguisher, pulled the pin, turned it upside down, and...watched it fart some white dust. Super.
Plan B - garden hose. That works wonders, thanks very much. About that time, the fire engine arrived, and pulled all the way around back. Pretty mortifying, to say the least.
Both the fire department and the police department tried to claim the briskets for evidence.
Thanks to my great neighbor, all is well. The response from the FD was impressive. No more than 4 minutes could have elapsed.
Thanks, everyone. Glad to know we're watching out for each other.

Bush Forcefully Attacks Iraq Critics
"The stakes in the global war on terror are too high and the nationalFINALLY the President goes on the offensive against the Democrats who are trying to revise history. As far back as the Clinton administration, the Dems were saying Hussein was a threat. In this day and age where the uninformed form their opinions from a sound bite they hear on the news, the President should be out there every day reminding people why we went to war and that Democrats supported the decision. Even Chuck Schumer, one of the Presidents harshest critics saw the intelligence reports and supported the removal of Hussein.
interest is too important for politicians to throw out false charges," the president said in his combative Veterans Day speech.Defending the march to war, Bush said that foreign intelligence services and Democrats and Republicans alike were convinced at the time that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and mislead the American people about why we went to war," Bush said.He said those critics have made those allegations although they know that a Senate investigation "found no evidence" of political pressure to change the intelligence community's assessments related to Saddam's weapons program.
"We will never back down. We will never give in. We will never accept anything less than complete victory," he said Friday.Thank God for this man's resolve. The terrorists will never go away. They are bent on our destruction and we should be just as determined to kill every last one of them as they are determined to kill us.

Oil Company Execs Defend Huge Profits - Yahoo! News
Here we go folks. The oil company execs finally speak. And they tell everyone that collectively earning $25 BILLION, that's with a "B", is just good business. That profits regularly go up and down. Now think about that for a second.....
Exxon/Mobil earned $10 BILLION dollars, IN THE THIRD QUARTER! In the third quarter alone, they have raped the public to the tune of $10 Billion. Every time you go to the pump think about how much money is being ripped off by the oil companies. They are currently earning more than the entire GNP of many countries, and they are looking at all of us and saying, tough!
We are being led to believe that a 24 cent per gallon increase in 24 hours was a good thing. That somehow magically that prevented the country from running out of gas. Say what? Did the extra 24 cents per gallon prevent anyone from doing anything other than pay more at the pump?
This is not a Republican or Democrat thing. This is a consumer thing. As comsumers we need to get mad enough to care about what is going on. We need to start to hit back a little. We need to let the big oil companies we won't put up with this anymore. No one is saying don't make a profit. No one wants to say how much you can make. But not at the cost of gouging it's customers. That's why we have anti-price gouging laws. Try raising the price of plywood by 1000% during a hurricane and see what happens. Why is this being allowed with gas?
The big oil companies are estimating to earn 96 BILLION dollars this year. They could give every man, woman and child in this country $100 and still earn over $70 BILLION!!! How much is too much?
What if every consumer stopped buying Exxon/Mobil products? Not one of these hoaky don't buy any gas on Tuesday schemes, but just everyone made an effort to stop purchasing Exxon/Mobil products. There are usually other gas stations nearby, use one of those instead of Exxon. Profits would fall, and the execs would be screaming for some kind of government intervention.
These companies are scum. They deserve to be hung on Monday Night Football at halftime. With play by play from John Madden. But maybe that's just me...

Texas Voters Approve Ban on Gay Marriage
Texas voters Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban onFirst off, this is not a ban on gay marriage. Texas will only recognize marriages between one man and one woman, the way it should be. Texas will also not recognize or be made to recognize the marriage of a gay couple that got married in a state that does recognize it as legal. If a gay couple wants to go to their gay church and get married, they can. Gays had argued that their "spouses" are not given the same authority to make decisions in emergency hospital situations. They also argue they should be able to add their "spouse" on their health insurance. The first argument can be solved easily by writing up a will. Being able to add a spouse on your health insurance mainly benefits a married couple where one of the parents stays home and raises the kids. The last time I checked, there are not a lot of gay couples that have this problem. I'm also guessing that in most cases both will have a job and could get their own insurance.
same-sex marriage, making their state the 19th to take that step. The contest in Texas was lopsided — the ban was receiving support from about 76 percent of voters with nearly two-thirds of precincts reporting. Like every other state except Massachusetts, Texas didn't permit same-sex marriages previously, but the constitutional amendment was touted as an extra guard against future court rulings.
Gay-rights leaders were dismayed by the lopsided returns, but vowed to continue a state-by-state battle for recognition of same-sex unions. Were they really dismayed? We may be tolerant, but our tolerance has it's limits. What ever you want to do in your own bedroom is fine with me, but attempts to normalize homosexuality or to do away with the sanctity of marriage will not stand.

Second officer-involved shooting in one week
Austin news is so ridiculous. Police responded to a nut waving a shotgun around, spend hours negotiating, try "less lethal" rounds to incapacitate him, finally SWAT has to shoot him.
But it's an "officer-involved shooting."
Looks like even after SWAT shot him in the shoulder, he picked up the shotgun and tried to off himself. He missed, but looks like he'll be eating through a straw for a while.

Ahhhh, ze French
In yet another example of how multiculturalism and political correctness are only grounds for failure, France has been ravaged for nearly 2 weeks by rioting islamists. In yet another example of the MSM failing its readers/viewers again, the major news outlets flat out refuse to admit that the ongoing rioting has anything to do with islamic jihadists.
It is almost enjoyable to sit back and watch the oh so smug French fester in a problem of their own making. I find it rather entertaining that the Frogs, in their holier than thou manner, stayed out of Iraq and the war on terror and still manage to have problems with the 10% of their country who happens to be muslim.
What is truly alarming to me is the manner in which the media outlets are reporting this. Or should I say NOT reporting this. In perusing the rag otherwise known as the Dallas Morning News, there are 2 stories concerning the rioting. Both are under the fold - first on page 1, and then again on page 26. Both also happen to be under less than flattering stories about the President's trip to South America. Both stories fail to mention until well within the body of their story that it's muslim punks causing the problem. Instead, and the trend throughout the rest of the MSM is that immigrants are unhappy with their treatment, as in this AP story:
"Chirac said France was determined to promote "respect for all, justice and equal opportunities." Violence has been concentrated in poor suburbs with large immigrant populations."
Yes, the muslim thugs who are causing the problems are surely showing respect, eh?
And what are the brave French doing to combat the poor misunderstood muslim hoods? Why, they're doing exactly what you would expect ze French to do. They're taking pictures!
"Seven police helicopters fitted with powerful lights and cameras flew over Paris and some of the other cities in an effort to pursue and identify the youths, who have taken to setting fires then racing away, often on scooters."
The muslim punks state that they're upset because they're not being shown any respect. Interior Minister Sarkozy reportedly called the poor little wogs thugs and scum and hurt their little feelings. So in response, they go on a rampage, burning everything in site.
However, MSNBC takes the cake in their reporting. It's not so bad they say. After all, if you were to go back to the LA riots in the wake of the Rodney King beating, 50 people were killed. To date, no one is dead in France yet, so it's just a bunch of poor misunderstood kids who are expressing themselves. MSNBC denounces Sarkozy's comments, finding his words are to blame for apparently thousands of muslim thugs acting like the punk ass scumbags they are.
I can only hope that something like this would not happen in the United States. However, the muslim punks around the world, including our own version of the little scumbags here in the states, cannot be anything but emboldened by the lack of action by the French government and the lack of any sort of denouncement in the world wide media.
Until the world starts treating these scumbags like the punks they are, this is going to be a recurring theme. I mean, really, what would it take for the muslim thugs in Detroit - home to the largest islamic population in the US - to go on a little rampage like this?
As for France, I'm sure Charlemagne is rolling in his grave.

Is Jimmy Massey telling the truth about Iraq?
Outside of the Marines, almost no one has seriously questioned whether Massey, a 12-year veteran who was honorably discharged, was telling the truth.I wouldn't give you a nickel for this poor dumb bastard's future. He's in for a world of hurt.
He wasn't.
Each of his claims is either demonstrably false or exaggerated - according to his fellow Marines, Massey's own admissions, and the five journalists who were embedded with Massey's unit, including a reporter and photographer from the Post-Dispatch and reporters from The Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal.

Designer busts out with wall of breasts
A Dutch designer has created a wall of fake breasts to help male
shoppers buy bras that fit their wives or girlfriends.
"When trying to buy a sexy bra for their wife or girlfriend, usually they
point to other women in the shop or, when asked about size, they say a
'handful'."
The Great Wall of Hooters. Awesome.

New Dog
Well, as of this afternoon, JR has a new pet. At the present time, the animal is named Sugar. That sucks, but a 14-year-old girl (The Princess) got to pick it. We'll see if it sticks. Right now, Sugar is yelping like a caged animal in her...um...cage. I'm crate-training her, and that's a little disconcerting for the pup. She's part shepherd, part something else - not really sure what. Maybe Siberian, based on some markings, her eyes, and tail. Guess we'll know in a couple months.
Rescued from the local animal shelter. Pretty cute dog.
Bizarre fight over charcoal ends in freak death of husband
Those wacky Houstonians.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News the woman was upset at the man for not bringing home charcoal for the grill. The argument reportedly escalated to the point where the pair allegedly poured lighter fluid on each other.Obviously a crime of passion, ignited by the flames of love.
Woman Has Nearly 3,000 Toll Violations
Here's another local story.
But Evangelina Gonzalez apparently pressed her luck with nearly 3,000 violations since February 2004. Gonzalez, 41, owes a record $76,039, which includes a $25 administrative fee per violation, The Dallas Morning News reported in Wednesday editions. If she'd just paid the tolls, it would've only been about $1800. In another bit of shocking information:
Gonzalez could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday by The Associated Press. No phone listing for her could be found.

US bird flu plan under attack
Somebody - someone who understands basic logic - besides me (I'm a computer scientist) - help me understand the logic here.
People are criticizing a plan that they say should've been implemented FIVE years ago, for a problem that does not yet exist today. More people have died from snake bites, alligator attacks, and frickin' sharks (no laser beams on their heads) than from bird flu (62 - count 'em - 62 people have died from bird flu). Where's the plan for eliminating reptiles and scary fish? And where are the critics of that plan? For that matter, shouldn't we have a plan for open containers of water, tall buildings, and mosquito bites? How do you get the bird flu?

People can catch it when handling or, especially, slaughtering fowl. It does not appear to be passed in cooked meat or eggs. No, Catfish - choking your chicken will not get you sick. You'll go blind, though.
50 CENT SLAMS KANYE'S 'BUSH IS RACIST' COMMENT
The IN DA CLUB star believes human intervention could not have prevented the effects of the hurricane, which killed over a thousand people in the US gulf states in August (05), and sees no point in reprimanding the President for something which was beyond his control.Ya know, every once in a while somebody I would never expect, comes out and surprises me. After hearing some of the black leadership, whose goal is to cause as much racial division as possible, bash Bush for everything from causing the hurricane to blowing up the levees, it's refreshing to hear somebody not politicize the disaster.

A fatwa on football
Not American football, of course, but rather that sport that allows tie games and involves running up and down the field with almost no action most of the time. Anyhoo, this is pretty HI-larious. In an effort to eliminate frivilous fatwas, a Saudi paper published one. It's an interesting insight to the Muslim Arab mind, chock full of logical gems like this one:
Here's the gist of this fatwa: Don't do things like the West (or Israel), particularly the evil Americans. Instead do something stupid and illogical, rather than be like them.
This is the ideology that they would foist upon you and I. As for me, I'll remain an infidel, thanks very much.
6. Do not play in two halves. Rather, play in one half or three halves in order to completely differentiate yourselves from the heretics, the corrupted and the disobedient.I don't know about you, but 3 halves of soccer is more than I can take.

Prince Charles to plead Islam's cause to Bush
This is just what we need now. Bring some touchy feely, kumbaya singing royal Prince to the United States and we have to get lectured on how we need to understand the warm and fuzzy part of islam. Yeah, right.
Perhaps his Highness hasn't noticed, but we're not allowed to profile young Arab men. If anyone so much as raises their voice to state the islamists want us all dead, with our heads hacked off as the good prophet tells them, then the CAIR raises a holy stink and the person unfortunate enough to have told the truth is out of a job. Perhaps the Highness if referring to the massive firestorm raised by the abomination of the insane memorial to the Flight 93 victims?
Quoth the Prince:
Or, perhaps it is their tolerance (spit) that allows such love, peace, and harmony as this: "In January The Times revealed that Bakri Mohammad used the same network to declare Britain a “land of war” and encourage his followers to join al-Qaeda."
The good Prince also reportedly had this to say:
In an earlier speech, the Crown Prince spewed this tripe, urging "the West to overcome its "unthinkable prejudices" about Islam and its customs and laws."
You know what, Charlie? When the Islamists decide that it's not acceptable to kill innocent and defensless hostages; that it's not acceptable to blow up innocent people in a crowded subway - people who's only crime was to not be a muslim; that it's not acceptable to destroy a crowded school, filled with innocent children then maybe I can get over my unthinkable prejudices. Until that time, mind your own stinking business.

The Prince of Wales will try to persuade George W Bush and Americans of the merits of Islam this week because he thinks the United States has been too intolerant of the religion since September 11.Really? I wonder if the tolerance (spit) of Islam in England helped them to avoid a recent nasty bombing in their subway system? Hmmmmm?

I find the language and rhetoric coming from America too confrontational....I wonder if he notices little things like this:
Shouting "Death to Israel, death to the Zionists", the protesters dragged Israeli flags along the ground and set them on fire.Or this:
An Islamic terror cell has smuggled two surface-to-air missiles into Europe in a plot to shoot down planes at one of France's main airports, it was claimed yesterday.Surely shooting down civilian jetliners can't be considered confrontational?

A Spooked
White House
A good example of why it's hard to be a conservative and easy to be a liberal.
Liberals are governed by sound bites - "Bush lied, kids died". Conservatives are governed by reason, logic, and fact. It's so much easier to repeat the mantra than it is to learn - which takes time.
This long article is well worth the read in the ongoing debate between the Bush White House, the media, and the CIA.

Hype and reality
From Dr. John Lott regarding the mis-named Assault Weapons Ban:
I just checked, and the sky is still not falling.
The new FBI crime numbers show that the only casualty from sunsetting the ban has been gun-controllers' credibility. Letting the law expire has at best only showed its uselessness. The real question is how much longer can the media take such hysteria seriously when it is so at odds with the facts.Sarah Brady and Chucky Schumer have had to eat their own hysterical words from last year, when they predicted blood in the streets, children armed with Uzis and AKs, and terrorists running amok with our own weapons.

Strong, Sweet Smell Reported in Manhattan
Although many compared the smell to maple syrup, others said it reminded them of vanilla coffee or freshly-baked cake. All seemed to agree that it was a welcome change from the usual city smells. This is news? I guess if you live near a feed lot long enough, anything different smells like heaven.

Iraq war foes ready for 2,000th military death
Cindy Sheehan, the military mother who made her son's death in Iraq a rallying point for the anti-war movement, plans to tie herself to the White House fence to protest the milestone of 2,000 U.S. military deaths in Iraq.
I can picture her and her hate driven cohorts sitting around celebrating every American soldier's death that draws them closer to their next opportunity to show the world what hate filled attention whores they are. It makes me sick.

Breathalyzers and Open Source
I think this is greatness.
The defendants say they have the right to examine the machines that accused them, and that a meaningful examination requires access to the machines’ software. Prosecutors say the code is a trade secret. It's probably written in COBOL or BASIC, and they're too embarassed to admit it.
A religion of peace?
Well, apparently as long as you're not drawing any cartoons that could be found offensive. Draw something deemed offensive by the islamists and you'll get some death threats, at least, from our brave hooded friends. Check out Michelle Malkin's blog, it's entertaining, at the least, considering how we're being force fed from CAIR that Islam is the religion of peace....
Are we losing?
Well, if you read the AP or Reuters, we're losing our asses in Iraq. Is it really any surprise that the President's approval ratings are low and the average sheep, I mean, American thinks we're losing the war?
A search of AP stories in the past week, since the Iraqi vote shows 43 stories concerning Iraq. Not one of them could be considered positive. NOT. ONE. Do you find it odd, dear reader, that there has not been ONE story with a positive shine on Iraq coming to us from the AP? A quick glance to Reuters' stories shows the same thing. NOT. ONE.
You know, I think the press would be completely at fault if all it wrote was glowing, supportive stories of our efforts on the war - nothing is perfect. The opposite is true as well. I find it hard to believe, nay, impossible to believe that nothing is going our way in this war. And you know what, a lot is going our way. Why is it that we don't hear about it?
At least the good folks at CENTCOM are TRYING to get the story out. It's just too damn bad no one is listening.
In case you're too lazy to check the link, there's some interesting facts (not the bloated, overpaid opinions you'll find on CNNABCCBSMSNBC) to be found.
The number of applications for poll workers increased by more than 4x. Sounds like someone is buying into the new system.
Approximately 60% of registered voters voted. Hell, that's more by far than vote in THIS country.
Attacks, suicide bombers, and violence are all slashed massively since the January vote.
You have to ask why this has not been reported.
I'm sure it's not because of any liberal bias in the media.

Houston hotel vacancies might be rare

The Houston Astros make it to the World Series for the first time in their history, and thousands of fans will flock to the City for the games. They're gonna need hotel rooms.
Hotel vacancies in Houston are tight but loosening up as thousands of Katrina evacuees are finding other places to live.Quilters? Quilters.
That may help in the long term for business travelers, but it may not be enough to satisfy Chicago White Sox fans who want to be close to Minute Maid Park if a World Series comes to town.
That's because nearly all the rooms booked next week near the park are already sewed up by more than 50,000 quilters attending a convention
"We are asking hotels, all 500 hotels, to tell us what their availability will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday," Tollett said.Sucks to be from Chicago to begin with, but this is icing on the cake. Enjoy your stay at Bubba's Flophouse Steakhouse.

Report: U.S. Troops Burned Taliban Bodies
I am outraged by this! I think an investigation should be started to find out why these soldiers did not have the proper supplies to do the job right. Why were these bastards not wrapped in pig skin before they burned them? I suggest we ship some pigs over there immediately so they can do an even better job than they are already doing.

IS AVIAN FLU BEING OVERHYPED?
From Glenn Reynolds, via Instapundit.
I've got a special interest in this story. My great-grandmother died in 1918 in New Orleans, one of the 25 million or so victims of the Spanish Influenza. Lucky for me, her offspring survived.
I suspect that while it's prudent to cull birds, get flu shots, and generally be aware of the danger that influenza presents to the young, elderly, and those with supressed immune systems, it's just as prudent to keep this thing in perspective.
The sky is not falling (yet).
As a medical researcher, I want to make a gentle but sincere plea to the blogosphere to calm down this flu hysteria just a bit. The main way that flu kills is by predisposing its victims to "superinfection" by bacterial illnesses - in 1918, we had no antibiotics for these superimposed infections, but now we have plenty. Such superinfections, and the transmittal of flu itself, were aided tremendously by the crowded conditions and poor sanitation of the early 20th century - these are currently vastly improved as well. Flu hits the elderly the hardest, but the "elderly" today are healthier, stronger, and better nourished than ever before. Our medical infrastructure is vastly better off, ranging from simple things like oxygen and sterile i.v. fluids, not readily available in 1918, to complex technologies such as respirators and dialysis. Should we be concerned? Sure, better safe than sorry, and concerns about publishing the sequence are worth discussing. Should we panic? No - my apologies to the fearmongers, but we will never see another 1918.I've been hesitant to post about this, because I've been observing the progression of the bird flu around the world, and have been waiting for confirmation of human-to-human transmission of the disease. I've heard none.

Nice little editorial about the folly of gun control.
All this makes us wonder, will anti-gun types soon begin calling for the registration and regulation of ball bats? Will Louisville Slugger adopt the slogan, "Baseball bats don't kill people, people do"?
Of course, if any of the victims of these attacks had been carrying concealed firearms, the results might have been very different. But then, we can't have people walking around with guns under their belts, now can we?

MADONNA WARNS: ALL WILL GO TO HELL IF DON'T TURN FROM WICKED BEHAVIOR
Ring.........Ring.........Ring.........
Hello.
Hello, is this the Kettle?
Yes.
This is Madonna. You're black!
"I refer to an entity called 'The Beast'. I feel I am describing the world that we live in right now. To me 'The Beast' is the modern world that we live in."I think "The Beast" is the crap that MTV is trying to pass off as normal behavior to our young people. Back when MTV actually played music videos, the fine work of Madonna was a big player. Her videos depicted sexual fetishes, homosexuality, out of wedlock pregnancy, sexual promiscuity, and depictions of religion that had the Catholic Church protesting her. Now, MTV has a separate channel called Logo that is a "cable channel providing programming geared towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender adults." MTV's current programming has soap opera type shows that depict high school age kids involved in the things depicted in Madonna's videos. They also have game show and reality type shows where the whole premise is based on kids hooking up.
The latest statements by Madonna on "The beast" would lead people to believe that she no longer condones this behavior and wouldn't support something that promotes it or tries to pass it off as normal behavior, but no. She was just on MTV promoting her new album.
Hypocrite.

Can I get a springroll with my "Toxic Soup?"
Say it ain't so. Again. The media might have over-dramatized the toxicity of the water flooding New Orleans after Katrina.

‘Ninja' prompts helicopter search in McKinney
The McKinney PD's crack forces, including a K-9 unit and a DPS helicopter, were called upon this week to search for a mysterious assassin. High-tech was even used:
Fortunately for the police, they received a call:
Redden said in the e-mail that one of the K-9 dogs found a scent but eventually lost it. He also said the helicopter searched the wooded area with a ”Forward Looking Infrared“ or thermal camera but no one was found.
Just as police were about to call off the search, officers received a dispatch call from a man who said his 13-year-old son had been playing with his Ninja sword in the area and believed he might have accidentally scared the lady. Officers went to the man's home had ”a nice little chat with the father and his son,“ Redden said.As Chief Wiggum would say, "Nice work, boys."

'Today' Reporter Paddles in Shallow Water
In one of television's inadvertently funny moments, the NBC News correspondent was paddling in a canoe during a live report about flooding in Wayne, N.J. While she talked, two men walked between her and the camera _ making it apparent that the water where she was floating was barely ankle-deep.You would think after all the stories of rape, murder, and hundreds dead in the Superdome were found to be sensationalized BS that these people would learn their lesson.
Later, an NBC News spokeswoman explained that Kosinski had been riding in deeper water near an overflowing river down the street, but there were concerns that the current was too strong for her.How stupid do they think we are?

Now hand me my latte' and get the hell out of my way, I'm late.

I would never advocate this sort of thing. But it is pretty funny, in a really mean way.

West's response condemned as slow and inadequate
And there it is. Didn't take long, did it?
The United States, which was under pressure to increase a pledge of $500,000 (£280,000) considered almost derisory by many Pakistanis when it was made over the weekend, announced it intended to give $50m in emergency aid.Comments?
The gesture, intended to make up for the resentment caused by an initial pledge which, along with the British offering of £100,000, was labelled as "peanuts" by Qazi Hussain, the leader of the Pakistani opposition party Jamat Islami, was greeted as a major boost to the struggling relief effort.

New Orleans Police Beating Caught on Tape
I'm gonna go on record on this one, and tell you what's going to come of this: nothing. nada. zip. Not one damned thing. Know why? Because it's no different from any other night in the Vieux Carré. I've seen NOPD come into the police station, all bloodied up, carrying in ne'er-do-wells, looking a far sight better than the bad-asses they were bringing in. Sucks to be the bad guy there.
That's the way it is in New Orleans. Behave, or pay the price. Don't like it? Party elsewhere.

We're number one! WOOOO!!!
This article says the Leatherface character is based on Ed Gein, a nutjob from Wisconsin. He was also the model for other characters like Norman Bates (Psycho) and Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs). Apparently, he had a penchant for amateur butchering, mostly of people. His collection included wastebaskets and lampshades made of human skin, and even a belt made of nipples. His master-craft was a full human suit. Nice, huh?
Hey, it's October. I'm getting ready for Halloween. BOO.

Bush Says 10 Plots by Al Qaeda Were Foiled
This post is for my pals in the smoke shop. We were asking the question just yesterday: "why don't we hear more about the plots that have been busted?" It seems to us that pointing out a few select incidents might help illustrate why we're fighting a war on terror, without inciting panic. I ventured to guess that if we knew of all the plans, it'd scare the bejeebers out of everyone. However, a measured dose of reality would be good for the public.
As if on queue, this article appears in the Washington Post today. Seems we all missed the content of the President's speech yesterday, where he outlined why we're in the fight.
And what of our brave enemies?
Stop wondering why we're in this fight. Look around and open your eyes.

And what of our brave enemies?
Bin Laden, Bush said, deludes his followers into becoming suicide bombers. "He assures them that . . . this is the road to paradise -- though he never offers to go along for the ride," Bush said. And of Zarqawi:
The president likewise quoted Zarqawi calling Americans "the most cowardly of God's creatures" and offered a direct rebuttal. "Let's be clear," he said. "It is cowardice that seeks to kill children and the elderly with car bombs and cuts the throat of a bound captive and targets worshipers leaving a mosque."Yesterday, we received news of planned attacks on the New York City subway system. This is who we're fighting: cowards who are afraid to show their faces, cowards who justify their acts through a perversion of their religion, cowards who target innocent non-combatants, women, and children.
Stop wondering why we're in this fight. Look around and open your eyes.

Shooting Games
After all the questions about the shooting games, I thought we should post links to the disciplines that we shoot. There are huge differences in the two.
International Defensive Pistol Association
IDPA is supposed to be geared toward concealed carry. You have to start with your pistol concealed by a vest, shirt, or coat. They have strict rules regarding equipment and gun modifications. You have to shoot targets as you see them while shooting around a barricade, or near to far if out in the open. Stages are usually 12 rounds or less, but can be as many as 18. You have to shoot a stage exactly as described in the course of fire (COF). You are scored on how long it takes you to shoot a stage and then you have time added to that raw time for each point down you are on a target. It's fun, but the tactical chipmunks bow up and start acting silly whenever they perceive something as being "gamey" or "USPSA like". A shooter was disqualified from this years IDPA Nationals for "Gaming".
United States Practical Shooting Association
USPSA is like a video game. It's not uncommon to shoot stages that are over 30 rounds. It's up to you to solve the shooting problem and usually can shoot a COF however you choose. You can use race equipment like the belts, holsters and magazine carriers Catfish and Pimp Daddy are wearing in the pictures. In recent years USPSA has introduced a production class, where you can shoot a stock service pistol and you shoot it out of a practical holster, not a race rig. They also have a Limited 10 division where you can only load 10 rounds in each magazine. You can shoot your single stack 1911 in this division and not have to worry about the low capacity disadvantage. You can also plunk down $3000 to $4000 on a race gun like the one Brad just got.
There is no pseudo tactical bull sh!t in USPSA. Just whip it out and shoot it as fast as you can. You are scored on the raw time it takes you to shoot the stage, and you get points for your hits on targets. An A is worth 5 points, B's and C's are worth 4 and a D is worth 2.
Both are fun and both are trigger time, but most of us here think that USPSA is more fun. Overall, the level of shooter in USPSA is much better. People that dominate their local IDPA match can show up at a USPSA match and find themselves finishing mid pack after shooting a very good match. This has driven all of us to step up our game and get better. We are all shooting better and faster than we ever have.
My advise is to shoot both. More shooting = more fun. You can find a local club using the web sites.

Gun Porn
Well, prompted by a curious guest, here you go.
(Please don't mind the shameless plug for my buddy at Rock Ranch Guns!!)
Here's my STI 2011 with an extended mag:

Here's the pistol with a "carry" mag:

As you can see, not all that big of a difference (14mm) between the two mags. But the extra bullets are oh so nice. Also, by looking closely, you should be able to see that this ain't no BBQ gun. This is a work gun, and it gets LOTS of work.
Best pistol I've ever owned, bar none!!
Questions, class?

This just in!
I was conducting some historical research and came across this stunner headline:
Nazi propaganda minister gets Boeing to apologize for showing images of B-17s bombing occupied Europe.
Mr. Joeseph Goebbels annouced today that "we thank Boeing, for their swift and decisive response to our concerns. Mistakes can happen, but the true test of a company's integrity comes in acknowledging and dealing with those mistakes."
Mr. Goebbels went on to state that, in a spirit of reconciliation, "the images that Boeing displayed were insensitive to the plight of the German people, and did nothing to bring our two cultures closer together."
Wow. Who would have thought that we'd be apologizing to someone who is our sworn enemy?
Read it all.

These statues are evidence that the people of the region worshiped oxen and humped cows 3000 years ago.Hey, let's keep sex and religion separate, okay?
