Celebrity anti-war protester, fresh off inking a lucrative deal with Speaker's Bureau, has demanded at the HUFFINGTON POST and MICHAEL MOORE'S website that the United States military must immediately leave 'occupied' New Orleans.

"I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I don't care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way America will become more secure is if we have a new administration that cares about Americans even if they don't fall into the top two percent of the wealthiest."

Sheehan is in the middle of a bus trip across America in support of her cause.

I can't decide whether this is simply nauseating, or just plain megalomaniacal.

Bush Vows Aid for Storm-Struck Gulf Coast

You know, I love President Bush. When it comes to protecting the United States, I believe he is clearly a visionary.

However, I haven't been very thrilled with much of his domestic policy in the past, and I'm not really thrilled with the proposal to rebuild as reported here.

When will we learn that you cannot fix a problem simply by throwing money at it. When exactly did the war on poverty start? How much have we spent?

Rather than let the free market system dictate what was fixed, what was rebuilt, and when, our government is growing in massive leaps and bounds. Are we really sure that Republicans control the White House, Congress, and the Senate? They are acting as if FDR were in the White House, and not George W. Bush.

The sad thing on top of all this is that no matter what Bush does to ease the plight of poor folks who were hurt from the storm, it will never be enough for the leftists. He will never do anything up to their standards, and if he thinks this will end the criticism his administration has been enduring as of late, I believe they will be sadly mistaken.

And, frankly, this gives me the flat out willies:

I trust the Bush Administration to do the right thing and not abuse the potential power proposed here. This hits on a trend that's been going on for some time. The typical reporter or reporterette doesn't seem to do much background research on the stories they pretend to be experts on. They do the same thing when they talk about evil, cop killing bullets that are teflon coated, armor piercing, and capable of shooting down an airplane; when in reality, they wouldn't be able to pick out an AK-47 from a Mossberg 500.

Also take into consideration that of the many "how to talk to the media" events I've had to attend, they all stress that the poor reporters/reporterettes are too busy nowadays to write their own stories, so if we write them for them, we'll have a better chance to get our information out. How many news stories have we seen in the last few years that look as if they were written by the head of the DNC, or Handgun Control Inc?

Blacks fault lack of local leadership

The hurricane relief, or lack thereof, has been gnawing at me since the story first broke. At what point have we arrived when American citizens refuse to take care of themselves, and only cry out for the government to help them?

I heard a radio interview over the weekend with one of the evacuees in Houston, bitching that the $2000 debit card he received from FEMA wasn't enough, he needed at least $10,000 to feed his family. I had to wonder just how much the Astrodome was charging people to eat? I could understand his comments if he was paying full price for the usual fare to be found in the dome, but I do believe everything they are getting now is free. So just what this fellow was needing 10K to feed his kids for was somewhat mystifying to me. And sickening.

Now, this article in the Washington Times seems to have not quite made the rounds in the rest of the MSM. The sad thing is that if this minister was white, he'd be instantly labeled as a racist pig:

This is a brilliant insight to what happens when government over-steps its bounds. In this case, it's an emergency that apparently gives New Orleans the right to suspend civil liberties, and delegate their authority to other non-local governmental police agencies. The results?

Last week, thousands of New Orleanians huddled in the Superdome and the Convention Center got a taste of anarcho-tyranny. Everyone entering those buildings was searched for firearms. So for a few days, they lived in a small world without guns. As in other such worlds, the weaker soon became the prey of the stronger. Tuesday's New Orleans Times-Picayune reported some of the grim results, as an Arkansas National Guardsman showed the reporter dozens of bodies rotting in a non-functional freezer.

You don't agree with the value of an armed citizenry?

The Times-Picayune detailed how dozens of neighbors in one part of Algiers had formed a militia. After a car-jacking and an attack on a home by looters, the neighborhood recognized the need for a common defense; they shared firearms, took turns on patrol, and guarded the elderly. Although the initial looting had resulted in a gun battle, once the patrols began, the militia never had to fire a shot. Likewise, the Garden District of New Orleans, one of the city's top tourist attractions, was protected by armed residents.

Let me ask you this question: if you were a resident of New Orleans, and were allowed to re-enter the city to collect your belongings, would you go unarmed? Me neither.

But experts say when natural disasters strike, it is the primary responsibility of state and local governments - not the federal government - to respond.

Huh. I reckon that makes me an "expert," huh? Nevermind that. Let's talk about who should have done their jobs, and who decided to blame it on someone else.

As one FEMA official told ABC News, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco failed to submit a request for help in a timely manner.

Oops. Looks like the Feds think it's the Governor's problem.

One aide to the governor told ABC News today Blanco thought city officials were taking care of the evacuation.

Oops. Looks like the Guv thought it was a local government problem.

"If the city and the state are stumbling or in over their head, then it's FEMA's [Federal Emergency Management Agency's] responsibility to show some leadership," said Jerry Hauer, director of public health preparedness at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Oops. Looks like one federal agency is blaming another federal agency.

Whatever. I've said it before, now I'll let ABC news say it again:

New Orleans' own comprehensive emergency plan raises the specter of "having large numbers of people … stranded" and promises "the city … will utilize all available resources to quickly and safely evacuate threatened areas."

"Special arrangements will be made to evacuate persons unable to transport themselves," the plan states.

When Hurricane Katrina hit, however, that plan was not followed completely.

Instead of sending city buses to evacuate those who could not make it out on their own, people in New Orleans were told to go to the Superdome and the Convention Center, where no one provided sufficient sustenance or security.

Tag, Ray Nagin. You're IT.

Garbage will not be collected for some time, therefore we are asking all citizens to bury on their property any type of meats, poultry, and seafood that is removed from freezers and refrigerators. Normal garbage can be held in trash cans until collections are resumed.

Again, to reiterate to all Jefferson Parish residents - there will be no electricity, no sewerage capabilities, and very low water pressure throughout the parish. Additionally, there are no food commodities, no gasoline, no restauratants, no drug stores available at all in Jefferson Parish. We are urging residents to get in, assess your property, gather needed items and leave. It will be weeks before Jefferson Parish is livable.

After Thursday, nobody will be allowed re-entry into the Parish for WEEKS, so the utility companies can work unhindered.

No Love Lost Between Blanco and Bush

Like estranged in-laws at a holiday gathering, President Bush and Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco kept their distance as both toured a relief center for storm victims Monday. At their next stop, the Republican president kissed the Democratic governor on the cheek, but it wasn't clear whether they had made up.

A pity that the President has to make the move when the Governor of Louisiana doesn't have the good sense to admit she's wrong. Nonetheless, she keeps on with her incompetence:

Blanco has refused to sign over control of the National Guard to the federal government and has turned to a Clinton administration official, former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief James Lee Witt, to help run relief efforts.

What a waste of salt water. This woman couldn't run a daycare, much less a state in this Union.

Stay Vigilant

In light of the disaster going on with our neighbors to the east, stay vigilant people.

Think about it. If you were a terrorist thug, and wanted to inflict the maximum terror with the least amount of effort, do you think this would be a good time to do it?

I say this because on the way home from work yesterday I noticed something a bit odd. There was a car parked under the brand new, soon to be completed President George Bush turnpike. This car had 3 men outside of it, and they appeared to be Middle Eastern or Hispanic. All of them were young, in their 20s, clean cut, with high and tight haircuts. Fit. And they walked like they have been trained. As if they had been in the military.

One of them had a small camcorder, like the one JR has. He was filming traffic - at rush hour - and the pillars and overpass of the Bush turnpike. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that blowing up a bridge named after Bush 41 and causing millions of dollars in damage; and thoroughly destroying a major transportation network would have horrific consequences for Dallas, Texas, and the United States.

I immediately called the Dallas FBI and gave them a thorough description of what I had seen. I've talked to a local CT Special Agent and he swore to me that they check each and every one of these reports out - or they lose their jobs.

Stay on your toes people. There are still people out there that do not mean us well.

Nagin calm, optimistic after meeting with President

Here's a change of pace.

Now, let's talk about Ray Nagin for a bit, shall we? And let's examine where lies the responsibility for a city, like - oh, I don't know - New Orleans, for example.

The mayor is responsible for the administration, planning, governing and general guidance of the city. In the event he can't do that job, he/she should solicit the help of the state, which is governed by, um, the Governor.

Am I going too fast?

In the event the state government is unable to handle a crisis, the administration of that state should appeal to the Federal government for help.

Now, let's take a look at the sequence of events regarding New Orleans, hurricane Katrina, and government.

The day it was evident the storm was going to hit New Orleans, the President declared the State of Louisiana a disaster area, making it easier for the state and local governments to take advantage of federal funds to assist with relief and recovery efforts. Quoth George W. Bush, August 28, 2005:

Yesterday, I signed a disaster declaration for the state of Louisiana, and this morning I signed a disaster declaration for the state of Mississippi. These declarations will allow federal agencies to coordinate all disaster relief efforts with state and local officials. We will do everything in our power to help the people in the communities affected by this storm.

What did those state and local governments do? Nothin'

When the mayor of New Orleans ordered a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, what did he do to help facilitate that evacuation, knowing full well that the poor and disenfranchised of his city would have limited resources to effect that evacuation? Did he order the hundreds of school buses at his disposal to transport people to places of safety? Nah. Rather, he opened the Super Dome as a "shelter of last resort." Last resort, indeed, as there were apparently no provisions for the basics of life, sanitation, or even common decency.

Louisiana's Governor Blanco simply whimpered and wrung her hands while all this was going on. You know, she's not a big supporter of the President. In fact, she's got a bad habit of going somewhere else when the President is in town. I don't think they had lunch together today, either.

So let's recap. The mayor of New Orleans completely drops the ball, and puts the populace in dire peril. The Governor of Louisiana continued to look like a worried housewife who hadn't seen her kids in a few days. And how does the Governor handle this situation she's helped create? By authorizing police and military to shoot to kill her own constituency. Don't get me wrong - looters deserve shooting, but what created that environment is the real travesty here.

And whose fault is all this? Why, the President of the United States, of course. Not only that, but Ray Nagin proceeded to rant and rave to whomever would listen that the relief effort's failure to move fast enough was the fault of the federal government. Let's just set personal responsibility aside for a while, shall we? Let's forget that preparation and planning could have averted the tragic suffering that now defines the Big Easy. Let's say stuff like

"They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn _ excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed," Nagin said.

Let's flash forward to today, after meeting with the President of the United States:

His comments came a day after he was heard on a radio interview erupting in tears and telling the government to "get off your asses and let's do something." By nightfall Friday, his tone had changed.

"Today was a turning point, I think," he said. "My philosophy is never get too high, never get too low. ... I always try to keep my emotions in check and yesterday I kind of went off a little bit. I was worried about that, but it maybe worked out. I don't know. If the CIA slips me something and next week you don't see me, you'll all know what happened."

Now, if anyone wonders why things are so bad in New Orleans, I'd recommend you re-evaluate your position, and start at the source. Government in the United States is, BY DESIGN, a hierarchy. Remember that the next time you decide to start fixing blame at the top. It's bottom-up government, and if it were any other way, you wouldn't be living in the United States of America.

Now, get off your asses, and help these people.

Fournier manages to somehow relate the aftermath of the hurricane with the government's impeachment of Bill Clinton - both cases where the government let the people down.

I agree with him wholeheartedly that our government wastes an incredible amount of money. I'm ashamed that the Republicans running the show have been pissing away as much money as they have, as if it grows on trees. What ever happened to fiscal responsibility?

However, how disgusting is the assumption that we are all just helpless pawns waiting for the government to come take care of us? Whatever happened to being self reliant, and being able to take care of yourself?

I've made it a habit to keep at least 3 days of food and water available at home at all times. Watching the devastation unfold before our eyes has caused me to rethink - I believe I'll have at least a week's supply on hand at all times.

Stated (forgive the paraphrasing): "Jefferson Parish will be closed until next Monday (the 5th) at 6am....state police and National Guard will refuse entrance during that time by way of an executive order that is to be issued....personal identification will be required....you will be advised to get the essentials from your homes, but not to stay.

Even if you're not from there, and even if you don't know anyone there, take a look at these forums. It gives you a pretty good idea of the enormity and seriousness of this situation. I suspect there will be opportunities to help out, volunteer, give money.

A WDSU news crew just captured images of looters hauling items out of a New Orleans Winn-Dixie on Basin Street. People were seen using shopping carts and hand-held carts to haul off cleaning supplies, beer and other items out of the back of the store.

If you've got broadband, here's some video. Looks like the area east of the River (St. Bernard Parish) got some pretty bad flooding. Might actually improve the property values over there...

Word from New Orleans

Since nobody's actually in New Orleans at the moment, all we've got is second-hand information. My Uncle Bill in Metairie has heard that he's got about 3 feet of water in his house. My Uncle Ed lives pretty close to him, so it's a safe bet he's got some damage as well, but he's in Baton Rouge with my cousins, and we haven't heard from them yet. Yet another uncle went to Mobile to weather the storm. Great idea, Uncle George. His brand-new car, which he's not even made a payment on, had a tree fall on it. Oops.

This is gonna suck for the Gulf Coast. I've got a bunch of family on their way from New Orleans this morning. Some of them were going to try to ride it out, until they watched the news last night. Since it's a Category 5 storm now, there's no way they're staying.

Liberal non-profits? That’s putting it rather mildly. I did a bit of research tonight, (in my pajamas, no less) and well, let’s say I was not too surprised at the results. There are some common themes among the groups that are, in effect, supporting Cindy Sheehan:
1. They push for the globalization of the world with one world government.
2. They are anti-gun.
3. They are radical environmentalists.
4. They are anti-United States

As I’ve said before, these people are extremely well organized. If the Brits deport one of these thugs, then that’s pretty bad too. “If the UK authorities reasonably suspect people of having committed certain criminal offences, their immediate duty is to bring criminally recognizable charges against them and promptly try them according to international fair trial standards instead of off loading them to a third country where they may be tortured." So, we’re back to the Clinton legacy of treating them as criminals and putting them on trial? And they’re worried about being tortured when they return to their homeland? Note to any thugs preaching hate in Britain: Stop. Or face the consequences.

Another group aligned with Cindy’s PR firm says it wants to fight terrorists, but without using force! And they have created a committee (don’t get me started on committees) with the United Nations to do just that.

Again, Cindy shows her true colors. And yes, dear readers, that's Cindy calling the terrorists "freedom fighters."

I’m sure that she’s not an extremist, though, right?

Let’s dissect, shall we?

- Iraq was not a threat to the United States until we invaded.

Well, I’m sure the fly boys flying combat patrol monitoring Iraq’s no fly zones who were getting shot at for the 10 years in between wars didn’t feel threatened. I’m also sure that the airline industry didn’t feel threatened by the airframe at Salman Pak where the Iraqis were training terrorists. And I’m quite certain the United States didn’t feel threatened by a regime that possessed the ability to create nuclear weapons and sell them on the black market to the highest bidder. Cindy herself states that Iraq would be able to produce nukes in the next decade. I would like to ask any liberal to tell me what the world would be like where a terrorist regime possessed atomic weapons. I’d also like the libs to tell me what going into a nuclear armed Iraq would be like in 10 years.

- Iraq was not involved in 9-11.

I don’t recall anyone in the administration stating that they were. What they did say, and what I am telling you is that 9-11 changed the world. The United States could not afford to sit back and have a terrorist state continue to exist. Period. Prior to 9-11, containment was an option. After 9-11, containment was the kiss of death. For you lefties, who want everyone to just get along, just getting along is no longer an option when you are fighting an enemy who would be more than happy to hack your head off with a dull butter knife, all the while chanting allah-akhbar.

- Iraq was not a terrorist state.

Then I wonder why the training camps at Salman Pak. I wonder why little innocent Saddamm was busy paying off the families of Palestinians who blew themselves up in pizza parlors and on public buses?

- We’re killing innocent people.

Well, I’d love to say that we haven’t killed any innocent people. But, in case you haven’t noticed, this is a war and bad things happen. What I can say that the number of civilian casualties in this war is incredibly low. What I can say is that our troops go to the extreme to ensure that they don't kill innocents. At the risk of their own lives. And, if you took the time to read Michael Yon’s blog, you’ll see that when we accidentally kill someone, we face up to it and follow through, taking care of the family as best can be done. What about the 3,000 innocent people that were killed on 9-11 Cindy? What about the innocent sailors killed onboard the Cole? What about the innocent people killed by any number of countless suicide attacks across the world? What about your freedom fighter buddies? Do they kill innocent people? There’s a difference between killing someone on accident, and killing innocents as a policy. It’s a shame that you can’t see that.

- We’ve created a new batch of suicide bombers.

What have the Buddhists and Hindus done to create new suicide bombers? Or is that our fault too? I’ll note that we get credit for creating new suicide bombers now, but where’s the credit for saving the Muslims in Kosovo?

The sad fact is that the suicide bombers hate us not because we’re in Arabia. They don’t hate us because we have pornography or our women can vote.

They hate us because WE ARE NOT MUSLIM. We are ALL INFIDELS; even you, dear Cindy.

It All Goes Back to Casey

So, it all goes back to Casey, huh? Then I wonder why, in this expose by Arianna, that Casey is not even mentioned? Nothing about his service, nothing about his death at the hands of terrorists in Iraq - or should I call them “freedom fighters” as Cindy does? If this whole thing is about Casey, why is that we've seen so few pictures of him? Why is it that we've read so little about his life? Or the life of his comrades who were killed with him? This is about Cindy, and her conscription at the hands of the antis, and it's really that simple.

Arianna spends some time criticizing the still in draft form Iraqi Constitution. I can’t help but think that the lefties have misunderestimated GW once again, but it should be interesting to watch as history unfolds before our eyes. Either way, it’s still too early to make an informed comment on, but I’m sure when the dust clears we’ll have something to report. For a little bit of perspective, why don't you in the media check on how long it took US to come up with our Constitution. If I remember my history correctly, it took much longer than 6 months.

Once again, the trend continues. If you question the leftists kooks and ask them to clarify statements they’ve made in the past or ask them to clarify the ties that they have to extremist groups then you’re smearing them. I think that the left was so used to not ever having to debate for the last 40 years they don’t know how.

For example:

Um, Arianna, I’ve been to Camp Cindy. (I think that’s an even better name than Camp Sheehan as I’ve been referring to the hippies in the ditch), and I don’t know what planet you live on dahling, but if those weren’t anti-war extremists maybe you should adjust your bifocals. People who post signs showing the battered, torn, and bloody remains of small children are not what I would call moderates, dahling.

Behind enemy lines

I've had a few folks here at home (who know me well) ask just how I snuck behind enemy lines at the anti's demonstration this weekend. Knowing that I'm handsome, charming, intelligent, mostly clean cut, and a regular bather, I knew that I could have a tough time behind enemy lines fitting in.

Drawing on years of OSS training, and my time as a member of the resistance back in the big one, I came up with the perfect disguise.

Know your enemy

The war rages on.

Doing some research on the Crawford Peace House and those who support them, I surfed onto the Dallas Peace Center. Called the "oldest and largest peace and justice organization in North Texas." Their mission "is based on a vision of reconciliation: to promote education, dialogue and action for peace and justice."

Man, just reading that alone makes me want to go sip a latte and go hug a tree.

Digging through the archives of their "Dallas Peace Times", I came across this entertaining story.

Dang it. What's that tree-hugging dirty hippie doing in my ice cream? I really, really like Cherry Garcia, but haven't had any in a year or so (watching my schoolboy figure, ya know). Nonetheless, it's pretty much it when it comes to fat-filled, sinful indulgence. But this really frosts my cake:

The PR firm working for Cindy Sheehan as she protests outside President Bush's ranch in Texas campaigning over the death of her son killed in Iraq has been paid for by Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

70 Gs. 70K. $70,000. So far. Wonder where all those nice, professional-looking signs and flags came from? Wonder who organized the shuttle buses and porta-potties?

Yeah, this is a real grassroots effort, alright. And I'm the Pope on weekends and holidays.

Boycotting's WAY too good for 'em. Any suggestions on how we might be able to get the word out on who's financing this bunch of America-hating neo-hippie liberal mouth-breathers?

More on Cindy

I've decided that one of my missions in life is going to be to get the word out on Cindy Sheehan, grieving mother turned anti-war hero.

Upon surfing the web prior to my visit to Camp Sheehan (I refuse to call the camp "Camp Casey". Casey Sheehan died a hero in the service of his country. His mother is doing nothing but dishonoring his legacy), I came across a brand new anti war organization, Gold Star Mothers Against the War. Cindy of course, is one of the founding members. Never mind the fact that she has taken one of our country's most sacred symbols - the gold star used to identify that your family had suffered a loss in WWII - and turned it into an anti-war propaganda symbol. Again, nice touch Cindy.

On their website, http://www.gsfp.org/ , Cindy has a rambling column entitled “A lie of historic proportions.” As Sun Tzu has told us, know your enemy. I encourage you to read her article for yourself.

All of it.

If it doesn’t become quite clear to you just what she stands for, there’s something wrong with you.

The first few paragraphs detail in her opinion, that we went to war because Saddamm is a bad man.

“After all of the hand-shaking and weapon brokering, when did Saddam become such a bad guy to Bush, Cheney, Halliburton and Co.? “

Ok, for starters, Saddamm became someone we had to remove from power after 9/11. Secondly, you see the old tired and usual ritual explanation that we went to war to make Halliburton rich. I’m sure Cindy realizes there are but two companies in the entire world that conduct operations on the scale that is needed in Iraq. One of them is Halliburton. The other one is a French company. Needless to say, after the manner in which our ’friends’ the French have been treating us, we weren’t going with the frogs.

The next thing that you will notice is that nowhere in the entire rambling article will you find any reference at all to the fact that the Islamic fascists have done anything to bring the war to them. Not a peep. It’s almost as if the United States just woke up one morning and decided that we’d start bombing the crap out of some third world country.

Pulled right from the pages of Mikey Moore’s website, Cindy brings up WMD’s rather in passing:

“We also know that Iraq was not about WMD’s. They weren’t there and they weren’t going to be there for at least a decade, by all reports.”

Let’s take this at face value. Let’s say Saddamm didn’t have WMD’s or the capability to manufacture them. And let’s say we didn’t go to war in Iraq and he was still in power. A decade down the road, what do you think the world would be like with a nuclear Iraq, actively supporting terrorism around the world? What do you think THAT war would look like Ms. Sheehan? Or, do you think good ole Saddamm would accept your offers for food and not war?

Cindy completely discounts the argument that bringing a semblance of democracy to Iraq is a good thing:

“The Lie of Historic Proportions also cost me my peace of mind, I do not feel free and I do not feel like I live in a democracy.”

I wonder if she voted? And, for the record Cindy, we live in a Republic. This is the state of liberalism today. If you say what they want, then you’re a supporter of free speech. If you make actions that they support, then we’re living in the greatest country in the world, and if you choose to make actions that they do not support, then we’re all living in Nazi Germany. You can’t have it both ways folks. You can’t compare the treatment of Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghrab with western prisoners getting their heads hacked off. You can’t sit there and complain about people attacking you when all they are doing is using you own words and actions. That’s not attacking. That’s debating. Speaking of debate, the pro-Bushies in Crawford invited the Peace House to a public debate. And you know what? The Peace House turned it down, stating that they had no interest in debating someone who’s opinions were different than their own.

She tells us that we’re really not fighting a war on terror in Iraq:

“One of the other great deceits that is being perpetuated on the American public and the world is that this occupation is to fight terrorism: If we don’t fight terrorism in Iraq then we will have to fight it “on our streets.” In fact, terrorist attacks have skyrocketed in Iraq and all over the world.”

Actually, I think this is one of the more brilliant aspects of the War on Terror. Terrorists are flocking to Iraq in droves to fight the infidel. And they are being slaughtered like the lambs they are. If you think that this is not a GOOD THING, maybe we should question just whose side you’re on.

She goes on to essentially call Bush and the United States government terrorists and criminals. I wonder if she realizes that by doing this, she is also calling her own son a criminal and a terrorist? And if she thinks she is not, then maybe she should talk to the vets across the street from her little protest. They seem to be under the impression that Cindy is calling all of them war criminals. I think that we have long since passed the time when we could say that Cindy was acting naively or unknowingly. She knows what she is doing and if you think that our enemies are not buoyed by her comments, then I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn that I’ll sell you.

As I write this, I can’t help but recall some of the signs on display at Camp Sheehan. The one that stated “Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam” keeps popping into my brain. Are these people really saying that they would like to see the United States humiliated and leave Iraq? Are these people really saying that they would like to see almost 60,000 of our troops killed? Are these people really saying that they would like to see an America whose influence is weakened in the world? Are they saying that they want to see millions of people killed when we leave Iraq? Are they saying that they wish for a day when our politicians ran the war, and not our generals? Or, are they just wishing for the good ole days when the hippies and anti’s were able to sway public opinion and wielded considerable power in our country? Regardless of their rationality or reasoning, these people must be stopped, and stopped now. Write your congressmen. Write your Senators, and write your local news stations. Tell them that you don’t support the actions of a few dirty hippies and that the President has your support.

I’m going to stay on top of this one. I think that as DC pointed out, we are not just fighing a war in Iraq. We are fighting a war here as well. Whose side are you on?

Reflections on Camp Sheehan

Today was a good day. Made the two hour trek to Waco for their monthly USPSA shoot, and had a great day at the range. Even walked away with a box of precision bullets for winning my class. They make great bullets (shameless plug) and you can find out more at their website at http://www.precisionbullets.com/ .

After the match, headed south to Crawford, picked up lunch at Subway, where I ran into two fellow shooters and we sat around and chatted about the match and about my plans to go visit the demonstration. Both were what I would politely call extremely irate with the demonstrators.

The first thing you see as you enter Crawford from the north is the Crawford Peace House. It’s a hovel on the side of the road, and it was packed. More on this later. As I crossed into Crawford proper, the first thing I noticed was the number of pro Bush and pro troops signage. From what I could see, the folks in Crawford are barely tolerating the demonstration, but thankful for the money that it is infusing into their little town.

To get to the Western White House, I turned off the main road, down a very twisty country road. As soon as I left the main road, I immediately noticed two Sheriff’s cruisers - the first of many that I would see.

I made my way further and further into the countryside, and noticed there were large numbers of folks leaving, and I was the only one headed in. I figured that was either really good, or really bad. From what I would later gather, there was a shift change of the anti’s. Finally, I reached the site of the demonstration and noticed 4 Sheriff’s cruisers, with the Sheriffs out directing traffic and being very visible. I stopped and asked them which way to parking and they pointed the way.

To the right side of the road were the pro-Bushies. There were maybe a dozen, holding signs and trying to stay out of the heat, which was significant. On the left side of the road were the anti’s. Tents, cars, and a somber line of crosses make up their demonstration. As I drove past both camps, it was humorous to feel the eyes of both camps as each side tried to size up which side I belonged to.

Just past the Pro-Bushies was the media tent, fairly vacant - with only what I took to be a college RTF crew in residence. There were only 2 large media trucks - one was labeled CNN, and based out of Dallas and the other was not marked. Whether it was a CNN truck or some other media outlet was not clear. Still, I found it interesting that CNN was the only major news outlet that I could identify.

That says something all by itself.

Parked the Z, grabbed some water, and hiked a short walk back to the camp. As I had not yet identified myself with one camp or the other, I wandered through the anti’s camp, observing as I went along. Three things have since struck me as key:

1. Everyone was very well behaved. No one was misbehaving. At the anti’s check in table, there were clear instructions telling everyone to behave and to respect and appreciate everyone’s point of view even if you disagreed with it. This pretty much sums up their whole view on life. I would be interested to see how they would interact with a terrorist intent on making them the next demonstration of Islamic strength. One of the first signs I noticed said “No solitary confinement of psychiatric prisoners. Guantanimo kills.” I’m still trying to figure that one out. Frankly, what I think is that they were recycling a poster from another demonstration and added on the “Gitmo kills” piece to fit in with this demonstration. That would follow the trend that the anti’s were professionals posing as spontaneous hippies.

2. The anti’s were very well organized. This was a professional job. I base this on the fact that a good portion of my job is to organize large civic events and I can recognize good organization when I see it. And this event WAS organized. Contrary to what is reported on the news, this is not a spontaneous event. There were porta potties. Water. Food. First Aid. Shuttles in the form of maybe ½ a dozen rented 15 passenger vans and a smattering of personal cars. All of which costs money. Someone’s footing the bill for all of that, and it would be interesting to know who.

After a while I noticed that there were many many more cars than people. On the way home, as I drove by the Crawford Peace House, I found out why. I would say that there were more people at the CPH than were at the demonstration itself. If I were to guess, I would have to say, grand total (anti’s and Pro-Bushies together) there were less than 100 people at the demonstration. Again, as I mentioned before, it gave me the impression that the anti’s were changing shifts - organized.

3. The event was not so much a demonstration as it is a Grateful Dead concert. Every stereotype that you can think of when you think of hippies and anti-war activists was present. It was almost comical. We joke here about long haired, maggot infested, Birkenstock wearing, stinky liberals. Well, I’m here to tell you fellas, stereotypes don’t come from nowhere. It was almost as if I had been transported back to 1972 and in fact, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see some of the same folks back then. (I would have to say that the bulk of the protestors were in their mid to late 40s and older with a smattering of college age folks.) Tie dies, long unkempt pony tails and sandals were the uniform of the day.

Having bathed in the last week, I felt decidedly out of place.

The environmentalists were also in full swing - everywhere you looked, hanging from practically every tent pole were signs directing me where to recycle my plastic, paper, and glass. The vegans were out, selling their soy products - and one older couple was even grilling a couple of soy burgers for the afternoon meal. Yum yum. You had the mandatory acoustic guitar player strumming along and singing anti-war songs all of which seemed to revolve around the opinion that we’re paying too much for our oil blah blah blah.

Hell, I thought when I first got there that I had stepped into a Partridge Family rerun as the first libby vehicle I saw was an old school bus, painted dark blue and light blue with anti war flags flying from a couple of the windows and camping gear stuffed inside. One of the flags criticized Raytheon, showing a picture of an Arab holding a little girl’s shattered body - and stating that Raytheon only builds things that kill people. Nice. You’ve just gotta love the tact. The other banner, which was a popular one for the anti’s, was one that had a fist wrapped around a carrot, with the words “food not war”. Good plan. See if Zarqawi would be willing to spend his time slicing potatoes instead of hacking off heads. Again, the flags weren’t homemade - professional custom job.

Another wonderful sign on display was a handmade job stating something along the lines of “Peace is not a goal. The Path to Peace is Peace.” Uh huh, sure. Let’s all just go hold hands and hope that the terrorists leave us alone. I wonder if they really think that if we just left Arabia and its environs that the terror mongers would be content to leave us alone.

Perhaps the quote of the day came to me from a mother/son combo. The kid was probably 9-10 years old, and his hand written sign said “Where’s the WMD’s, George?” He looked down and after reading his sign, asked his mom “What’s a WMD, mom?” I’m sure we’ll see his picture somewhere.

After cycling through the anti’s camp, I crossed the street and started talking to the pro-Bushie contingent. Almost immediately, one of the Sheriffs politely asked me to which side did I belong. After explaining to her that I was a pro Bushie, she told me that I couldn’t go back across the street and cycle back through the anti’s camp. Nice. So much for freedom of speech.

I understand why they were keeping the two camps separate, but it would have been nice to been able to go back and forth as you wished.

Among the pro Bushie’s were several veterans, and most interesting to me, a survivor of 9/11 - Earl C. Johnson. He was on the 51st floor of the WTC when the planes hit, and he’s working on a book telling his story on 9/11, titled Stairwell to Heaven. Earl was totally flabbergasted with the anti’s not understanding that the war on terror is directly connected to 9/11.

The vets I spoke to were, if anything, frustrated with the lack of news coverage they were getting. They implored me to help get the word out on-line that contrary to what the anti’s were putting out, the pro-Bushies had been given some land on a nearby ranch for camping and hanging out and told me to let our readers know that there was a place to stay and they would be welcome. They also informed me that a large contingent of pro-Bushies, in the form of a motorcycle ride with the American Legion out of Dallas had been turned away and was not allowed to enter the demonstration area. Your guess as to why would be as good as mine.

While I was visiting with the pro Bushies, an anti wearing (what else) a blue tie dye with a peace symbol in the middle walked to the edge of his side of the road and applauded us for exercising our 1st amendment rights, and that even though he didn’t agree with us, he was proud that we had taken the time and the effort to get out and counter protest their protest. One of the young troops next to me said “well, gee, you’re welcome. I risked my life overseas so you could come out and protest me. THANK YOU for your support.”

Classic.

It was at that point that I voiced my opinion that while the anti’s had every right to speak their mind, that what they’re doing was coming very close to aiding and abetting the enemy. Anyone who thinks that the terror mongers aren’t gaining strength from the images of the protestors is kidding themselves. Does anyone remember Vietnam? As I walked back to my car, I couldn’t help but notice the sheer professionalism of the protestors. I wonder how many of them do this for a living? As I mentioned earlier, this was not a spontaneous event. This was well organized and well managed. Frankly, those of us on the right could learn quite a bit from them when it comes to organizing demonstrations. I also couldn’t help but wonder if the explanation for the smaller number of pro-Bushie’s is that we actually have jobs and a life with responsibilities while the anti’s flit from one Grateful Dead concert to another?

This is a sad sad state of affairs. Note to the FBI: if you're going to attempt to prosecute any criminal activity, make sure that at least one of them is not black. Apparently, if you go after a group of people, and they're all black, then it must be a rascist move on the part of the FBI. When can we get to the point in our society when we are judged by our actions and not the color of our skin? Perhaps maybe when the race mongers are out of business??

I can't even begin to describe how crazy this is. Why is it that we can't have an investigation into potential criminal activity without the black population crying foul? Why is it that a black councilman can say something like this: "They're going to make the Los Angeles riots look like a picnic...." and not suffer the consequences of inciting a riot?

We all know damn well if a white councilman had said something along those lines, the black community would be in an uproar. I'm listening to the news right now, and the Dallas City Council is in full CYA mode, and refused to fire the individual at the center of the controversy who by all the accounts I have read and heard should have been canned a long time ago.

A federal investigation into low-income tax-credit housing projects in Dallas has widened to include four more city officials and several city departments, after FBI agents served an overarching subpoena to the city attorney's office.

In addition to Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill, council member James Fantroy and City Plan Commissioner D'Angelo Lee – whose offices were searched by federal agents in June – the subpoena named council members Leo Chaney and Maxine Thornton-Reese and plan commissioners Carol Brandon and Melvin Traylor, city officials close to the investigation said.

And some black leaders – outraged that the seven city officials named in the subpoena are black – went on the offensive Tuesday, calling the investigation a conspiracy on the part of Mayor Laura Miller and Dallas' white business elite.

"They're going to make the Los Angeles riots look like a picnic," Mr. Fantroy said. "Why is this all just black folks? Why is it when it comes to us, we're guilty the minute there are accusations?"

The FBI declined to comment on Mr. Fantroy's comments. But Ms. Miller said Tuesday that the idea she ordered an FBI investigation is ridiculous.

"I certainly did not," she said. "I've never talked to the FBI ever since I've been mayor."

And Ms. Miller, who came under fire on Friday when she scheduled a vote for today's City Council briefing to remove Mr. Lee from the Plan Commission, said she won't back away simply because a few names have been added to the investigation.

"I am concerned that if the City Council doesn't take the lead in cleaning up the mess here ... people will look at City Hall and think everyone is corrupt," she said. "I've been very clear my goal is to get a plan commissioner who is unethical off the Plan Commission."

The subpoena served last week requested information from "city records" and mentioned "particular people and specific events" relating to the investigation, said Special Agent Lori Bailey, spokeswoman for the FBI.

Subpoena subjects
Sources on the receiving end of the subpoena said it named Mr. Fantroy, Mr. Hill and Mr. Hill's Plan Commission appointee, Mr. Lee, in addition to Southwest Housing – a development company owned by Brian Potashnik that works primarily in tax-credit projects – and Odyssey Residential Holdings, run by his rival and former associate, James R. "Bill" Fisher. Mr. Chaney, Dr. Thornton-Reese, Ms. Brandon and Mr. Traylor were also named.

"Nothing was served on anyone individually," said Agent Bailey, adding that she is barred from discussing details of the records request. "This was a general subpoena served on the city's custodian of records."

The Potashnik family, in addition to giving at least $25,000 to Ms. Miller's campaign since 2002, has also contributed $6,000 to Mr. Chaney since 2003, campaign finance reports show. Mr. Fisher and his family contributed $3,000 to Dr. Thornton-Reese in March 2005, records show.

Sources close to the investigation said the subpoena requested documents and tapes on at least five Southwest Housing tax-credit projects approved since 2000: Rosemont at Scyene in Mr. Hill's district; Rosemont at Laureland on the border of Mr. Hill and Mr. Fantroy's district; Cherrycrest Villas and Fairway Crossing in Mr. Chaney's district; and Rosemont at Arlington Park, which is in council member Pauline Medrano's district. Ms. Medrano is not named in the subpoena, nor is her predecessor in District 2, John Loza. All the projects were new construction except for Fairway Crossing, which is a rehabilitation.

Employees in the city secretary's office and in the housing, development services and economic development departments were ordered Monday to start collecting the requested information, including tapes, documents and e-mail messages, a city official said. They have been asked to give the information to the city attorney's office by Friday.

Ms. Brandon, who is Mr. Fantroy's appointee to the plan commission, said she didn't know anything about the subpoena until a reporter called her Tuesday morning. As far as she knows, she said, she's only had to vote on two tax-credit housing projects in her district, and hasn't done anything wrong.

Mr. Traylor, a former Dallas school district educator who went to work for Southwest Housing in 2003, two months after Mr. Chaney appointed him to the Plan Commission, could not be reached for comment. He is the manager of education programs at 21 Southwest housing projects in Texas and one in Colorado. In that position, he coordinates after-school tutoring programs at apartment complexes.

Mr. Chaney and Dr. Thornton-Reese said they were caught off-guard by the news that their names appeared in the subpoena. Dr. Thornton-Reese said she hasn't done anything questionable and noted that it doesn't seem like a coincidence that all the city officials named in the subpoena are black.

"Isn't that strange?" Dr. Thornton-Reese said rhetorically. "Blacks have been targeted before."

Mr. Fantroy took a stronger stance. He said the FBI investigation's focus on black officials is retaliation for the May defeat of the strong-mayor referendum – a measure that was championed by the mayor and beaten largely by unprecedented voter turnout in the southern sector.

And he said that if "the big boys" – referring to top elected officials and white business leaders – told the FBI to "pack up and get out of here," they would do it.

"What are they saying? That we can't be honest?" Mr. Fantroy said. "They're trying to set an example. Why don't the racism stop?"

Mr. Fantroy's sentiment rings true throughout the southern sector, political analyst Rufus Shaw said. Dallas blacks have gotten to a point where they "don't believe anything the Justice Department says, the FBI says, the white media says," Mr. Shaw said.

And even if there's no conspiracy in the FBI investigation, Mr. Shaw said, the perception of it is so strong that those who are guilty will become martyrs.

"We're in siege mode," he said. "I don't think you can get 10 African-American leaders to disagree with what Fantroy said."

The coming debate
Council members agreed Tuesday that developments in the FBI investigation would color today's debate about removing Mr. Lee from the Plan Commission.

Mr. Lee did not return phone calls on Tuesday. But City Secretary Shirley Acy said she hadn't received a resignation letter from him, and a spokeswoman for the family said Mr. Lee had not made up his mind on whether to resign.

Ms. Miller said she's not sure what he has left to decide.

"He needs to quietly resign and go away," she said.

But District 3 council member Ed Oakley said the FBI investigation is so preliminary and the cast of characters so big that it's inappropriate for the City Council to decide who should stay and who should go.

"All of it has been allegations," he said. "What's the next step? Are we going to remove four members from the City Council? Are we going to remove the other plan commissioners too?"

Council member Mitchell Rasansky said any plan commissioners being investigated by the FBI "probably need to do some soul searching and resign." But he stopped short of asking his colleagues on the City Council to step down, differentiating between elected officials and an "advisory body."

If council members "are indicted, they need to resign," he said. "But if I was subpoenaed and under investigation, I would give deep consideration to resigning."

You know, the one that was installed after 9/11 that can withstand a hand grenade, RPG, or all of the kicking and screaming passengers onboard as the plane they're flying in slams into the ground at 600mph. You see they have secured the door during all flight operations, so your first response after taking care of yourself had better be to save a fight attendant. They can get into the cockpit and then you can save the day.

If this was a pressurization leak at 37,000 feet, you had better grab that oxygen mask fast, you only have a few seconds before you're asleep. And then remember, ANY landing you can walk away from is a good one.

28 Years Gone

It was 28 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting on the edge of my parents bed watching Gilligan's Island when it was interrupted by a news bulletin that announce "The King is dead". I was young, but I realized the magnitude of the loss of this cultural icon. It wasn't until my later years I learned to truly appreciate his music. I embraced the power of "E" and extolled his greatness. My motorcycle roadrace endurance team was named "Takin' Care of Business" and we had "TCB" and the lightening bolt my race bikes. I've toured Graceland and gone through his jet, the Lisa Marie. I've sang Elvis songs until my voice was gone. I've seen Johnny Harrah, the worlds greatest Elvis Impersonator 5 times. He starred in the Elvis documentary titled "This is Elvis". It's as close to the real thing as I could get. I still have the Velvet Elvis that I bought at the big flea market in Sweetwater during the annual Rattle Snake Roundup. It graced the walls of my bachelor pad, for oh so many years. Today It hangs over our clothes dryer in the garage. That's as close as my wife would let it get to the inside of our house.
Elvis died on the toilet. Some think that is embarrassing or even disgraceful, but I disagree. Elvis was the coolest man to ever live. I think He probably knew that your body voids all waste when you die, so knowing it was his time, he went and sat on the toilet.
I'll be wearing a black arm band today, and I'll be listening to Elvis CD's, and when I sit on the toilet, I'll hold a kind thought for E. I hope you will too.

U.S. Struggling to Get Soldiers Improved Armor - New York Times

I think the Times should just go ahead and begin calling themselves the American version of al-jazeera.

They'll print, in detail, of the failures. Fine. I've got no problem with telling it all, the good, the bad and the ugly.

They ignore, in deafening silence, the victories. Typical.

I'm sure most of us remember not too long ago the story of the young trooper whose life was saved by his body armor, caught on video by the shooter.

I don't seem to recall either seeing the video, reading the story, or reading the letter that the soldier wrote describing the incident, and how the armor saved his life.

I guess it's easier to find fault than give credit to anything that happens during this administration's time in office.

I also don't remember seeing the Times criticize President Clinton for not supplying armor to the Rangers killed in Somalia, even though they were begging for it.

The New York Times sucks.

AOL's love fest with Ms. Sheehan

Ok, DC got me thinking about the war and its multiple fronts. I decided to stop being quiet and sent a little love note to AOL. I'll be interested to see what sort of response I receive. Thanks DC, I think my congressfolks are going to get a similar letter soon. The war rages on....

To whom it may concern:

I am deeply troubled by the choice that AOL News has made in giving Ms. Cindy Sheehan any airtime whatsoever. She is strongly featured in the article "A mother's protest", and there is little or no opportunity for the full story to be told. You have a brief quote from Drudge, but you make no space available for the story from her hometown paper which was published shortly after her visit with the President last year. That story completely contradicts her statements today. You also do not include the letter written today from the rest of her family, urging her to end her protest, and giving their continued support to the President and the troops.

This particular story troubles me because I'm becoming more and more aware that the war is not only being fought overseas. It is also being fought here in this country and in my opinion, stories focusing on people like Ms. Sheehan are undermining the war effort. Period. I have also noticed that as of late, there has been little to no stories making the front pages of your news that talk about the successes and victories of our troops overseas, but there are plenty of stories focusing on the deaths of our troops. Why is that? I urge you to visit Michael Yon's blog to read current dispatches from the front. His work is unbiased, and it is excellent. And it also tells the complete story of the unit he is with - the good, the bad, and the ugly, and not just the company line that you are currently repeating from the bulk of the mainstream media. Reading the majority of the stories that you CHOOSE to publish, one can not help but think the troops are losing the war and I know that is simply not the truth.

So, here's my offer to you. I've been a subscriber for years to AOL. If I don't see any changes in the way in which you present your stories, particularly those that focus on the ongoing war, then I'm jumping ship and will go to another ISP. I simply refuse to spend any of my money with an organization that is as biased as yours appears to be in its presentation of the war.

I realize that my 20 something dollars a month likely means nothing to you, but it means something to me, and that's all that matters.

I've also noticed that you've done nothing to refute your earlier statements, nor have you refuted the statement that was published by your family today condemning your actions.

The more I read and learn about you, the more that I am disgusted by your attempts to use your son's death to attempt to push your own liberal viewpoints, because that's all you're doing. And it's embarrassing.

Good ole Cindy Sheehan

I've been fairly quiet on this rabid woman as I think that she's had a right, given to her through the loss of her son, to vent her displeasure.

It's gone way beyond that. Any sympathy I had for her over the weekend for her loss has disappeared, and rather quickly at that.

Never mind the fact that she's changed her tune. (check out Michele Malkin's site for excellent up to date information) Shortly after her meeting with the President after her son's death, she referred to the meeting as uplifting and meaningful. Today, she says Bush didn't take it seriously and was joking and laughing as if it was not a somber occasion.

Officials Monitored Hijackers Before 9/11 Attacks

Nice to see a police department with a practical attitude. Actually, most of the PDs around here are Glock-oriented. 60,000 rounds is a nice, conservative estimate. Air America fiasco

The silence is deafening. There's been a story brewing quietly under the radar concerning the left's last great hope in Air America. Short of some paltry coverage in the New York media, and a brief spot on CNN where the bulk of the time was spent trying to discredit the blogosphere's coverage of this fiasco, it's been damn quiet out there.

In case you haven't heard, and I'm betting your chances are pretty good you haven't:

"The Bronx News has learned, through informed sources, that the diversion of hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club in Co-op City to the liberal Air America Radio is at the center of the city’s probe of corruption at the local club.

The money, which was reportedly paid to Air America as a loan, was supposed to be paid back with interest, two unidentified informed sources told the News. One source added that Air America officials, led by an official of the Gloria Wise Club, agreed to help the local club by publicizing its activities.

To date, no indictments have been handed down in the New York City Department of Investigation’s ongoing probe of the Gloria Wise Club’s reported transfer of funds to Air America."


Now, considering that Rush has been getting the anal exam for his drug addiction I find it odd that good ole Air America "borrowing" money from the Boys and Girls club is a non-story. But oh yeah, I forget, there's no bias, right?

Two South Texas schools called "persistently dangerous"

But they have lots of sunshine there in South Texas.

Under federal guidelines, the Texas Education Agency must designate a school as persistently dangerous if it reported three or more mandatory expulsion incidents per one-thousand students in each of the previous three years.

Those incidents include the use or possession of a weapon on campus, arson, murder, sex crimes, aggravated assaults and felony drug and alcohol violations.

The schools are the W-A Todd Ninth Grade Campus in the Donna Independent School District and United South High School in Laredo's United Independent School District.
