Ending weapons ban illogical, dangerous - Daily Trojan - Opinions
Anyone who now wants to, can obtain military style automatic assault rifles both legally and confidentially.
But this is where the problem lies. Why would anyone want automatic AK47s and Uzis to freely roam our streets and our communities? More importantly, who would need such weapons outside of a battlefield?
USC has turned out some really smart people.
This tool is not one of them. Automatic weapons? I wish.
School Board Bans Yearbook Photo Of Student Posing With Shotgun
"LONDONDERRY, N.H. -- The school board has voted to ban a photo of a student from the senior section of his high school yearbook because he is posed with a shotgun."
New Hampshire - with the least restrictive gun laws in the nation - state motto "Live Free or Die" - is banning guns in the senior section of the yearbook.
"Dean cited a statement on student publications in the board's policy manual: "We encourage the use of school sponsored publications to express students' points of view. They shall be free from all policy restrictions outside the normal rules for responsible journalism."
What a bunch of pansies. Even John Kerry has a shotgun.
Chechen terrorists probed - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics - October 13, 2004
doesn't this just give you a warm fuzzy feeling?? Looks like the carbine is going back in the car. ;)
On a side note, this really really smells like BS to me:
"Officials believed the disk may have been part of a terrorist plot. However, FBI officials said on Friday that there did not appear to be a terrorist threat connected to the computer disk.
The Iraqi who had the disk, a member of Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath Party, apparently was collecting information from the Internet sites of American schools that would be useful for emergency planning for Iraqi schools, U.S. officials said."
Yeah, right. Sounds like someone's trying to avoid a panic, but that's just me being paranoid.

The Seattle Times: Local News: Second break-in hits a Bush office in state
Maybe it's just the fact that I'm a historian by trade. Am I the only one who remembers something called Watergate?? Oh, but wait, that was Republicans breaking into the Democrats office.
That's different.
This is obviously a nationwide deal as it's happening all across the country and is obviously being organized at some level by DNC operatives. Funny how the Repubicans get the Watergate crises, and the Dems get nothing.

CBS, NBC cash goes to Democrats
Nope, no media bias here, no siree!
For CBS: "Of over $111,000 given by network employees, just two $1,000 contributions went to President Bush's re-election campaign."
For NBC: "NBC's contributions totaled $146,585, none of which went to Bush."
For Fox: "Of the $25,383 total, $4,930 went to Republicans candidates or committees."

Saddam bribed China with oil deals, CIA finds - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics - October 12, 2004
China has always been in the back of my mind. They've been awfully quiet in the war on terror and I wonder how much, if anything, they have to do with funding and training the tangos. An old SEAL buddy of mine who worked in the South China sea once told me that he was convinced that our next major shooting war would be with China....

President Bush's campaign office in Spokane burglarized, vandalized
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but what exactly is going on here?
"Bush campaign officials believe the break-ins are part of a broader attack on the president's re-election offices around the country, including a burglary in Canton, Ohio, last night, gun shots fired in West Virginia, Florida and Tennessee and union protestors storming offices in three Florida cities and Minneapolis."

Allah Is In The House: Liberal Anger
This is what I've been talking about in a few posts related to the "questionable" activities of Democrat "activists." There's so much confusion in the Democratic party, I think some of the lunatic fringe is acting out, nay, even lashing out in anger. Given the state of the current party leadership, it's hardly surprising, but very disturbing. Keep an eye out for how level-headed any responses to this post might be...

Hi, my name is JR, and I'm a geek
Heaven help me, I'm hooked.
It's a game you play on the Internet. It's called BlogShares. Fortunately, my company blocks the website, or I'd be fired for not actually working, but rather for building a fictitious financial empire. We trade in commodities, but the commodities are blogs. Like this one. You start with a measly 500 blog bucks and 5000 shares in your blog (if you have one). The goal is to parlay that nest egg into a Trump-like kingdom of bloggery. Here's what I've found out about my financial prowess: I suck. I'll never be a corporate kingpin, so you can sleep easy tonight. Here's a link to my pathetic portfolio: JR. Stop laughing - I still don't quite have the grasp of ideas as commodities, much less what to do with them. If you're a mega-player that feels sorry for me, feel free to be my sugar-significant other. I'll be your bitch.
All the funny-money stuff aside, here's the magic of BlogShares: you have a mechanism for finding and reading like-minded bloggers, linking to each other, and generally building the blogosphere into something rather formidable. It's a little bit like inbreeding in some cases, but it's largely extremely cool and beneficial. People see your blog (even if it's of dubious value), and you become a part of the new revolution in journalism. Power to the people! Or something like that.

Mr. George, John Kerry didn't tell a lie - he just gave a nuanced answer.
Rich Lowry on Election 2004 & Debate #2 on National Review Online
yet something else you wont see in the New York Times.
My Way News
as I suspected, Bush gave Kerry a thorough ass whipping. You can tell by the way in which the mainstream media is reporting the event. Note we're not hearing in breathless terms how wonderful Kerry did, how poorly Bush scowled, etc. Nada. Zip, Zero, Nada. Kerry used the same technique Edwards tried (and as unsuccesfully as well) in not answering any new question directly, but instead, going back to either refute something Bush said, or to add something to what he (kerry) said.
All the little libbys can say is, to quote George Steffie Stephanopolous "Kerry did a better job at remembering the names of the questioners."
the silence is stunning.

Iraqi native arrested for terror plot
Here's some real detective work. How did they ever figure out this man might be crazy?
"However, many residents noticed that his vehicles were heavily painted with numerous political writings in opposition to the war in Iraq such as: "I pray all soldiers lay down their guns", "War Won't Work", "Peace" and "Killing Kids for Oil."
According to the affidavit, the investigation began in August after federal authorities were tipped by an acquaintance of Al-Uqaily that he was seeking to buy weapons.
According to the affidavit, Al-Uqaily told the acquaintance that he was angry about the state of affairs in Iraq, that he was 'going Jihad,' and that he was going to blow up something. "
Yeah, that says it pretty much. But here's the part that's really nuts:
"Authorities said the suspect paid $1,000 to buy two disassembled machine guns, four disassembled hand grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the agent, who was working with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. "
$1,000 bucks for all that? And he didn't figure out he was being set up? Geez, a good machine gun will run you in excess of $5000 alone, not to mention all the Class II paperwork, licenses, etc. Oh, wait. Bad guy - no need to worry about laws.
PS: Did anyone notice this:
"33-year-old Ahmed Hassan Al-Uqaily was caught...." Hmm. Good thing nobody was profiling this gentleman, huh?

Once more, the smartest guy I know of.
A particularly interesting point:
THE KERRY NON-ALTERNATIVE
Meanwhile, Senator Kerry offers neither a plan to stay nor one to leave Iraq, only something "secret." He thinks a country that defeated Japan, Italy, and Germany at the same time as a warm-up to keeping at bay a nuclear Soviet Union and China must fail if she takes on Afghanistan and Iraq at once. His trial balloons so far — beg the Germans and French to come in and give the Iranians clean uranium — have met with polite chuckles. We already know the effect that such warmed-over Carterism will have in Iraq: failure with the added wage of humiliation.

Muslim get-out-vote unit pushes deadline
How typical. I guaran - dam - tee you that if there was a group of right wing Christian radicals who wanted to get their voter registration cards in late, and were allowed to do so, that you'd be hearing that all over the nightly news. But, you get a few hundred Muslims who show up late (all of whom are going to vote for Kerry) then well, that's ok. Liberals suck.

Victor Davis Hanson on John Kerry and Iraq National Review Online
once again, the smartest guy I've read.
A snippet for those of you too lazy to check out the link:
The volatility on the part of Kerry's handlers descends even to the superficial — we do not know whether the candidate will appear pale, tan, or now orange. His hair may be black, gray, or salt-and-pepper, his lines smoothed or creased — radical changes in appearance that transcend even the wear and tear of the campaign and become a metaphor for his fluctuating message. Windsurfing, orange dye on the epidermis, whitened teeth, hair tint, and teenager runabout clothes — these are not the things that captivate auto workers, farmers, miners, and welders. So everything else Kerry has done in this disastrous campaign has only added to the image that he is an undisciplined and contradictory thinker without either strong beliefs or the moral courage to risk offending critics in pursuing his ideals

There are no new plans.'' "

I'm starting to see a trend here. What's the deal? Do Democrats honestly believe that civil disobedience is the way to get their point across? And what is that point, exactly? You're not satisfied with the Democratic process? Are you fomenting a grassroots revolt?

Here's the kicker to the story: "In an unexpected twist, a bank directly across the street from the headquarters was robbed just as KPD officers were busy investigating at the scene of the shooting."
Would that make the unknown (presumably Democrat) assailant an accessory to the robbery?

Dirty Hippies
I had a very pleasant drive home from Austin yesterday - I'll bet Washington, D.C. doesn't have that many Kerry bumperstickers.
In any event, just blocks from home on I-35, I came up on a Jeep driven by a kid about 25-30 years old, with a Kerry/Edwards sticker and another that said, "Forgive us Iraq, We Know Not What We Do." I must've been shaking my head in bemusement as I passed, because I riled up the dirty hippie driving the dirty Jeep.
He caught up to me, pulled up beside me, and gave me a dirty look. I was in a good mood, so I ignored him, and moved on. He caught up again, so I did what every voting American should do on election day: give the Democrats the finger.

The Shrill Shill
I'm watching the Presidential debate. John Kerry is gonna need an ass cast, because his butt's being kicked hard.
Never have I heard such a shrill shill for a political ideology than what has foamed from the mouth of John Kerry. "WMDs are pouring across the border daily." Huh? What WMDs, JFK? There are none, right? He voted FOR military action, but he's always been against it. "North Korea has nuclear weapons." He'll go after them. Right.
I'm even more confused on John Kerry's positions than before the debate. Nice work, Kerry. I hope your next boss finds you worthwhile.

MSNBC - Storms wipe out sea turtle nests in Florida
Once again, human intervention is humbled by Mother Nature. I always found it curious how much attention was paid to sea turtles when visiting Volusia County beaches. Don't walk here, watch out for this, etc. Yes, humans have encroached on their natural environment, and it's admirable to attempt to save the turtles. Alas, hurricanes have no conscience or social responsibility.

"Springsteen will be joined by such heavy hitters as the Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M., John Fogerty, the Dixie Chicks, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Pearl Jam, John Mellencamp, Babyface and Death Cab for Cutie."
Ah, the bastions of political sanity in the USA - musicians. I can't fathom why anyone would give one good rip what John Goober Mellenhead has to say about our foreign policy, can you? So why would anyone listen to him when he endorses one political candidate over another?
I'm all for anyone encouraging our youth to vote. But celebrity doesn't equal wisdom. Play the music, and if it's good, I'll steal it off the Internet. Otherwise, get bent.

'Miraculous' Christ Washes Up in Texas Rio Grande
Okay - last post for the evening. Kind of an interesting article, but one part really caught my eye. Presumably, whomever typed this article kept a straight face through this gem regarding the city of Eagle Pass, Texas:
"The border city, which lies opposite Piedras Negras in northern Mexico, has a large Mexican community."
I'm sure exhaustive research supported that conclusion.

Uh huh. Riiiiight. Because admitting you had that would be against the law.
Whatever. That's not what bothers me. What bothers me is that John Kerry's idea of the type of firearm you can own is a hunting shotgun or an antique SKS bolt-action rifle. What bothers me is that he has actively worked to ban all other types of firearms in this country. As an elitist Democrat, he clearly knows how I should live my life, and clearly knows better than I do how to live it. He is not above legislating that attitude.
This is a supporter of the Second Amendment, the friend of hunters and sportsmen? Don't you believe a word of it. If you do, your guns will be gone in a heartbeat. All of them except your antique rifles and shotguns. Maybe.

Nevermind that he defeated Weld by only seven points in a state where a wino Democrat's frozen corpse would win by ten points against a Jesus/Moses ticket, what I can't see is how Kerry will connect to voters who aren't used to a diet of condescension and pomposity by self-important Boston aristocrats. John Kerry may sound all fancy to those in the North East, but in most parts of the country, despite gorging himself on escargot, truffles, brie, and camembert, he always leaves the impression that he just took a big bite out of a urinal cake.
Think about that next time you see his big white teeth."
That cracks me up.

then obviously you should be able to get one for getting tagged with a laser in the eyes.
maybe this fellow should write up his own fitreps and after action reports??

it is my humble opinion that anyone with a name like Yusuf, Youssouf, Islam or Mohammad who is flying on an American carrier or flying into the United States should get quarrantined for at least two weeks before they even get near the airport, if they are allowed in at all.

From the man who brought you the Iranian Hostage Crisis, double-digit inflation, double-digit interest rates, the failed Iranian Hostage rescue attempt, the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott (NBC's still happy about that), and other innumerable idiocies.
Incidentally, the Iranian hostages were released the day of Ronald Reagan's inauguration, 444 days into their detention. Reagan won the election with 489 electoral votes to Carter's 49.
Now, whose policy holds water?

USATODAY.com - Kerry vows multi-pronged attack on terrorism
yes - first, he's gonna tell them he's going to shoot them. Then, he's going to tell them he just wants to talk. Then, he'll tell them he wants to shoot them. While they're busy trying to figure out which side of the road he's going to be on....
Some wonderfully intelligent thoughts from Mr. Kerry's speech:
""We will win when we stop isolating ourselves and start isolating the terrorists," he said." Ummmmm, no, Senator - we'll win when we kill all of them. Isolating the terrorists will do nothing to keep us safe against them. Killing them all will.
"Strengthen and in some cases rebuild alliances with other countries. "If ever the United States of America needed to reach out instead of alienating countries, it is now," he said. Kerry said such action was "not a sign of weakness — it is a sign of strength, and it will make us stronger."" OK, how many countries are with us?? Is it not over 30 now?? Or does Mr. Kerry only refer to France, Germany, Russia, China, and Iran?? Yes, kind people, this is who I want running our foriegn policy!!
"Deny sanctuary and recuiting opportunities for terrorists." Ummm, are we not already doing this?? Interesting to note that Kerry has yet to mention killing all of them.
"Improve security in U.S. ports." I'm all for it. How you gonna do it Senator?? Let's hear some specifics.
"Hold Saudi Arabia "accountable" for terrorist group development there, and work to make the U.S. independent of Mideast oil." I agree - we should hold SA accountable and do I understand this to mean that you're all for opening up American oil fields in the ANWR and throughout the US that your eco-nazi pals have closed down??
""Wage a war on terrorist finances," including freezing assets of anyone or any organization "who is financing terrorism."" Um, last time I checked, were we not doing this already?? Oh yeah, what about kill the SOB's??
"Seek a "verifiable" global ban on the production of materials needed to make nuclear weapons and talk directly to North Korea about its nuclear weapons program. "We have to get serious about diplomacy with North Korea, now," he said." Yes, thank Blow Job Bill for that little issue.
"Improve global security of chemical and nuclear weapons, particularly those in the former Soviet Union. He promised to secure all weapons there within four years." Oh, let's hear the details!! How are you going to do that exactly, Mr. Kerry?? The FSU can't even verify where all of its weapons are!! And you're telling us that you will be able to majically handle this all on your own!? Pray tell just how you plan to do that??
"Make Afghanistan a priority again, because it's still the front line of the war on terror." Ummm, so, what you're saying Mr. Kerry is that we no longer have troops or equipment fighting the war in the 'stan?? Maybe you can ask your pal Dan Rather to do some reporting on the elections they're getting ready to have in the 'stan rather than bogus documents???
"Create a national intelligence director's post that included full control over intelligence funding and double the number of overseas clandestine officers." I do believe that the new director of the CIA was given this power today Mr. Kerry. Double the overseas agents? You betcha. Again, let's thank Blow job Bill for depleting our guys on the ground and trying to spy from the sky alone. Far as I can tell, President Bush has been increasing our guys on the ground since he came to office.
"As president, I will fight a tougher, smarter, more effective war on terror..." Typical Liberal pap. The climate is failing due to humans, we're losing the war in Iraq, and the Tet Offensive was a battlefield victory for the NVA/VC. It sure would be nice if the press would actually ask Mr. Kerry the following: "How exactly will you fight a tougher, smarter, more effective war on terror?" Is that such a tough question to ask????

Victor Davis Hanson on Dan Rather and Liberal Hypocrisy on National Review Online
smart man.
a snippet:
"Those who profess to be Democrats are reaching historically low numbers. Many prominent Democrats are hypocrites: Feminists Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton were uncouth womanizers; the principled war critic Senator Byrd cut his teeth in the Klan; and the self-proclaimed moralists Senators Harkin and Kennedy have both been caught in postmodern problems with the truth. Being rich and a lawyer helps too. Most prominent Democrats and their enablers are either lawyers or multimillionaires, and now often both. Running a hardware store may explain your Republicanism; inheriting the profits from a chain of 1,000 hardware franchises will likely make you a new Democrat."

One situation where the UN ended genocide. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller??

Heinz Kerry helps Democrats raise $1M at Phoenix event - 2004-09-23 - The Business Journal of Phoenix
"In regard to the hunt for terror leader Osama Bin Laden, Heinz Kerry said she could see the al-Qaida chief being caught before the November election. " "'I wouldn't be surprised if he appeared in the next month,' said Heinz Kerry, alluding to a possible capture by United States and allied forces before election day. "

This is getting tiresome. The AWB was so effective. Blah, blah, blah.
"You remember it - newspapers around the world carried the story. It was the day after Christmas in 2000, just a few miles from where you live. A 42-year-old employee of Edgewater Technology, located in Wakefield, took an AK-47 assault rifle from his gym bag and gunned down seven of his co-workers."
So, um, let's get this straight. The AWB was in effect in 2000, correct? Exactly HOW did a criminal get his hands on an "AK-47 assault rifle?"
No contradictions here. Katherine Clark is the Democratic candidate running against Sen. Richard Tisei, R-Melrose

Kerry Iraq Speech Has His Camp in 'Fighting Mood'
what planet is Kerry living on? He does not have the gift that clinton had of lying his ass off and getting away with it.

Terrorists in Ohio.
What's that, you say? Terrorists? How so?
Terrorists attack the innocent, without warning, without provocation. Cowardly savages that vent their misguided hatred on targets of their imagined wrongs are not worth prosecuting. They deserve precisely what they serve out. Revenge, swift and sure, with extreme prejudice.
I hope no arrests are made in this case.

MICHAEL MOORE TRIES TO RALLY DEMORALIZED KERRY CROWD...
I never thought I'd be linking to you-know-who's page, but here you go.
Michael Moore the cheerleader. It does my heart good to see such desperation. I love this quote:
"If I hear one more person tell me how lousy a candidate Kerry is and how he can't win... Dammit, of COURSE he's a lousy candidate -- he's a Democrat, for heavens sake! That party is so pathetic, they even lose the elections they win! What were you expecting, Bruce Springsteen heading up the ticket? Bruce would make a helluva president, but guys like him don't run -- and neither do you or I. People like Kerry run."
Mikey then proceeds to discount ALL the facts of the current campaign: the polls are wrong, terrorism isn't important, the swifties are all liars, Republicans are a minority party in this country, etc. Nothing like a complete denial of reality. After all, Michael Moore would never distort the truth, would he?

Polls
This just slays me. The media's not liberal? Right.
Kerry is ahead in the polls, and it's gospel.
Bush is ahead in the polls, and the question is:
"Do you believe Presidential polls accurately reflect public opinion?"
Come November, I reckon we'll all find out, huh?

Problem is, he computed back in March that October 1st & 3rd were the likely dates. Guess what? As of September 16th, Bonds has 699 homers. D'oh.

All the liberal hissy-fit hand-wringing conniptions can stop now. It's done. It's over.
The AWB was NOT ABOUT MACHINE GUNS. It never was. The AWB was about cosmetic features on certain scary-looking "ugly" guns. Period.
Take, for example, the Ruger Mini-14 rifle. Cute name, huh? It's a small carbine chambered for the .223 caliber round, the same bullet used in the M-16 (military auto rifle) and the AR-15 (civilian semi-auto rifle). In and of itself, it looks just like any other hunting rifle on the market, and is particularly popular with ranchers (there's even a "Ranch Rifle" model). However, add a flash supressor, a pistol grip, and a collapsible stock, and what have you got?
The exact same rifle, but now it's scary-looking. Fires the same rate (one bullet per pull of the trigger), fires the same bullet. That's all. Just cosmetic. Here's a link to some pictures:
Scary Mini-14, and not-as-scary (scroll down).
Get over it. Now I'm gonna go get me some new parts for my AR-15.

"...fundamentalist Islamists had been making war on the United States for years, with the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, the attacks on our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 (which was intended to topple both towers, but failed), all the way back, in some sense, to the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran back when Jimmy Carter was president. For all those years, they were at war with us, but we largely ignored it."
